In this video, we discuss ways to improve children's language skills. You also want to allow children to wonder about things and question things.
Some examples of this can include putting an object in a box and having children wonder what might be inside or they can question why it rained today. These are things you can write down and further discuss with your students as they are curious and wondering is part of life.
This training session starts with an overview of language; literacy skills in young children and what research says about developing early literacy skills and best practices for teaching young children vocabulary, oral language skills, concepts of print, print knowledge, and more. Practical strategies with hands-on activities that support learning language & literacy skills will be presented throughout the session beginning with infants and toddlers and then moving on to preschool children. The continuum of language development and literacy learning will look at what skills are closely related to later literacy achievement and how teachers can teach those skills. This Course is 5 Credits/0.5CEUs.

What is Circle Time in a Preschool Class?
Circle time is a structured activity in preschool where children participate in a group activity, such as singing, listening to stories, or discussing a topic. It can help children learn and practice important skills, including:
Social and emotional skills
Children learn to listen and pay attention as everyone takes turns, which can help them overcome shyness and express themselves.
Language and literacy
Circle time can increase a child's awareness of language and sensory experiences.
Mathematical concepts
Circle time can reinforce specific concepts through songs.
Creativity
Activities like singing and acting out stories can encourage children to use their imagination and think outside the box.
Here are some tips for making circle time effective:
Be mindful of what might hinder the session: Avoid rigid lesson plans, designating seats, or leaving circle time to talk to others. You should also avoid using threats or rewards to get children's attention.
Make it routine: Following a consistent routine can help children feel safe and ready to learn.
Consider the children's attention spans: Tailor circle time to the children's attention spans.
Some circle time activity ideas include:
Fingerplay: Can help with creativity, fine motor development, listening skills, and body awareness
Singing: Can include everyone in the circle and reinforce concepts
Finish the pattern: Children can use crayons, unfix cubes, or other blocks to finish patterns.

Why Is Early Childhood Education Important?
Early childhood education is a term that refers to the period of time from a child’s birth to when they enter kindergarten, according to Dr. Jessica Alvarado, academic program director for the BA in Early Childhood Development at National University. According to Alvarado, it is an important time in children’s lives because it is when they first learn how to interact with others, including peers, teachers and parents, and also begin to develop interests that will stay with them throughout their lives.
But Alvarado says it’s a common misperception that early childhood education is only about learning basic skills. “It’s so much more than that,” she says. “It’s a time when children learn critical social and emotional skills and a partnership is formed between the child, their parents and the teacher. When this is done successfully, it lays the groundwork for it to continue throughout the child’s education.”
Nations around the world are becoming aware of the importance of early childhood education as well. UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) is an international governing body whose mission is “to contribute to the building of peace, the eradication of poverty, sustainable development, and intercultural dialogue through education.” Here’s what the organization says about the importance of early childhood education:
“Early childhood care and education (ECCE) is more than preparation for primary school. It aims at the holistic development of a child’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical needs in order to build a solid and broad foundation for lifelong learning and wellbeing. ECCE has the possibility to nurture caring, capable and responsible future citizens.”
