Dear Educators, Students, and HBCU Supporters,

The HBCU Council of Shiloh Baptist Church is pleased to announce that the 2026–2027 HBCU Council Scholarship Awards Application Cycle is NOW OPEN.

Since its establishment in 2003, the HBCU Council has remained committed to supporting students pursuing higher education at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. What began with two scholarship awards has expanded to include multiple opportunities that recognize academic achievement, leadership, and financial need.

Extended Application Deadline: May 3, 2026 (11:59 PM)

All application materials must be submitted in one complete packet to: [email protected]. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

Eligibility Requirements:
• Must be a resident of Washington, D.C., Maryland, or Northern Virginia
• Must be a member of a church or community-based organization
• Must complete a minimum of 40 hours of community service
• Must submit two letters of recommendation (teacher/counselor, pastor/church official, or community leader)
• Must submit an official high school or college transcript

Dear HBCU Council Friends & Supporters,

Thank you for your support of the HBCU Council’s Sweet White Jazzy Night: The Legacy Lives. We’re writing to let you know that this year’s event, initially scheduled for August 23, 2025, has been postponed.

Sweet White Jazzy Night will now be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026. This change allows us to continue building an experience worthy of your support while advancing our mission to fund scholarships for HBCU students.

If you purchased your ticket through Eventbrite, your refund will be issued beginning today, August 22, 2025. And, if you purchased tickets in person at Shiloh, we will issue refunds in person starting this Sunday.

We thank you for standing with us and can’t wait to celebrate with you next summer.

Dr. Wallace Charles Smith HBCU Award, based on academic excellence and the HBCU Heritage Scholarship Award, based on academic performance and financial need. Since then, the HBCU Council has expanded its offerings in additional Scholarships and Awards.

Students are encouraged to apply for our Scholarship Awards if you plan to attend or have been accepted to a Historically Black College or University (Public/Private). As a reminder, all applications must be submitted via email by January 28, 2024 (11:59pm).

The DC Defenders are a professional American football team based in Washington, D.C. The teams head coach is Reggie Devon Barlow (NFL, Super Bowl # # Champion). Coach Barlow is an alum of Alabama State University (ASU), a fourth round NFL draft pick, who began coaching in 2005 as ASU’s Quarterbacks Coach and then Head Coach in 2007. Barlow became the Head Coach of Virginia State University’s football team in 2016.⁣
