A milestone worth celebrating: Georgetown University School of Medicine has received its first National Institutes of Health (NIH) Medical Scientist Training Program grant.

This federal award supports MD/PhD students who connect research at the bench with care at the bedside. For more than three decades, our physician-scientists graduates have gone on to lead in academic medical centers and advance innovation across biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and beyond.

Georgetown has long led in preparing physician-scientists who bring together scientific excellence and ethical insight. Distinguishing this program further is its pathway in bioethics, grounded in the Kennedy Institute of Ethics and the Pellegrino Center for Clinical Bioethics, which prepares graduates to address the scientific challenges ahead and the ethical questions they raise.

Congratulations to Dr. Todd Waldman, Dr. Peter Turkeltaub, and Dr. Daniel Sulmasy for their leadership, and we thank the many faculty, students, staff and alumni whose decades of scholarship, mentorship and collaboration made this achievement possible. 💙

We're proud to share that our Cancer program has been ranked #1 in the D.C. region and #48 in the nation by U.S. News and World Report in this year's Best Hospitals rankings.

In addition, U.S. News recognized three of our adult specialties as high performing: Gastroenterology & GI Surgery, Geriatrics, and Neurology & Neurosurgery. The hospital was also recognized as high performing in the following nine procedures and conditions: colon cancer surgery, ear, nose & throat surgery, heart failure, kidney failure, leukemia, lymphoma & myeloma, lung cancer surgery, pneumonia, prostate cancer surgery, and stroke.
