The video opens with clips of previous National Literary Competition submissions, a projector, and ASL silhouettes before transitioning to Tyler against a blue background. He introduces this year’s National Literary Competition and explains the two competitions: ASL and Writing.

For the ASL competition, the theme is “A package arrives at your front door. What happens when you open it?” Students can participate in Storytelling or Poetry. Elementary, middle school, and high school students are eligible.

For the Writing competition, the theme is “An ordinary day takes an unexpected turn. Take us along for the ride.” Students can submit Creative Writing or Poetry. Middle school and high school students are eligible.

Tyler then introduces the prizes. First- and second-place winners across categories and age groups will receive a $100 gift card, a Gallaudet University sweatshirt, and one waived summer camp fee.

The Grand Prize includes one winner from each competition. Grand Prize winners will receive a $250 gift card, a Gallaudet University sweatshirt, and a free trip to the 2027 Deaf Way Festival at Gallaudet University, taking place October 21–24, 2027.

Tyler shares the submission deadline, January 8, and directs viewers to the Gallaudet University Youth Programs website for submission information and competition details.

The video closes with more clips from previous submissions, Tyler saying “Good luck!”, and a final reminder to submit by January 8.

The books are in. The battle begins. Are you ready? ⚔️📚

Video Description: Alison is putting away books on a shelf. Alex comes up to her and asks, “I’m looking for the prelim books for Battle of the Books. Do you know where I can find them?” Alison responds with “Yes! I can help you, let's go!” Alison picks a book off the shelf and hands books one at a time to Alex as on-screen text names each division.

BUFF DIVISION appears on screen as Alison hands Alex:
Beyond the Bright Sea by Lauren Wolk
Mascot by Charles Waters & Traci Sorell
The Science of Breakable Things by Tae Keller

BLUE DIVISION appears on screen as she hands over:
Starfish by Lisa Fipps
Big Apple Diaries by Alyssa Bermudez
Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger

BISON DIVISION appears on screen as she hands over:
Katie the Catsitter by Colleen AF Venable
Dory Fantasmagory by Abby Hanlon
Wildfire by Breena Bard
Sugar by Jewell Parker Rhodes

The camera pans to Alison, who says, "Have fun!" Alex turns and walks toward the camera. The books obstruct the camera lens, and the screen fades to a text slide with the Battle of the Books logo and the Preliminary dates:

Bison: November 3, 2026
Buff: November 4, 2026
Blue: November 5, 2026

A final text slide reads, "Good Luck Readers!"
