Trends I see fall under the following categories: Technology, Health, Hygiene, and Regionalism. I predict enterprises that faithfully prioritize, maximize, and really leverage these categories as north stars in every possible area will lead recovery.

Been struggling with advice to share for those in transition as facing loses of all kinds unexpectedly can be soul-crushing and a lack of resources can be crippling --even before Covid-19 hit. However, history, data, and past experience are valuable even in pandemics. Below is based on my own experiences including in the 2008/2009 financial crisis: For those in transition, volunteer your skills to help others (as you have capacity while looking). This keeps you fresh, productive and enables you to see your worth and stay connected. Whenever possible, learn new skills through the online education options that are free, including those temporarily provided. Technical and technological skills will be key on pivoting. Consider how you can transition in stages to new things or repackage experiences. Write out your long term vision and be ready to adapt it based on information and delays. Seek out mentoring and Zoom coffees to connect with people. Don't give up and remember we are all in a global emergency and battling life challenges. Don't take offense when you don't get responses. Be kind to others and yourself. Stay safe. We are in this together. Transitions and unemployment are hard but believe in yourself and a future. We will overcome together.

How your leaders look at the future, plan and address challenges all can provide informed blue prints for you. Shout out to my amazing and super talented boss. His coffee meetings are a best practice in supervisory leadership.

Speechwriting is a powerful tool to expand your mind. Don't be intimidated if you haven't tried it. Start with a former speech as a template and be sure to conduct research on the topic. Volunteer for these kind of assignments to continue learning and increase your creativity.

Give credit and recognize others. Nominating a colleague can mean so much and inspire them going forward especially on a rough day. (Good luck to my nominee today!).

Think Inside the Box 05/07/2018

When innovating, think inside the box. Is there a model that works and that could be modified and applied to another purpose? D. Boyd & J. Goldenberg write: "The key to being consistently innovative is to create a new form for something familiar and then to find a function it can perform".

Think Inside the Box Forget brainstorming: People are at their most innovative when they work within the constraints of what they know.
