Join us in our next event!

Professor JOSH LERNER is the Head of the Entrepreneurial Management Unit and the Jacob H. Schiff Professor of Investment Banking at Harvard Business School. Professor Lerner will lead a panel of HBS graduates with expertise in the field of impact investing using two HBS Working Papers related to impact investing in the forestry sector. The conversation will include issues of asset class and what investment and impact returns are expected by the investment community. The preservation of forests has been identified as a key weapon in limiting climate change and preserving biodiversity. Due to the limited pool of government funding, we are seeing today a variety of fresh approaches to the ownership and management of forestland, with an emphasis on the combination of conservation goals and private investments. But the barriers to successfully achieving attractive financial returns and desirable social outcomes can be daunting. The conversation will specifically discuss a novel green bond product offered by The Conservation Fund geared toward investors who seek financial and conservation returns.

Panelists:
MATTHEW ARNOLD - Head of ESG and Corporate Responsibility Engagement
CLARK BINKLEY- Managing Director and CIO at Greenwood Resources
RATNIKA PRASAD - Director at the Environmental Def Fund

Special Commentators:
JOHN GILBERT - EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT AND CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER AT THE CONSERVATION FUND

Presidential Candidate Biden has proposed a comprehensive climate strategy with a broad clean energy plan and framework for addressing climate change. The panel will describe the scope of the plan, industry specific impacts, what comprises the proposed $1.7 trillion spending element, winners and losers, advocates and critics. The overarching theme seems to be “jobs”. What are the opportunities for business? How does it relate to the Paris Climate accords and upcoming climate conferences? What are the major milestones along the way to the 2050 net-zero emission target? Is 2050 too late?

“Crisis Leadership is Entrepreneurial Leadership” - was the theme lead by HBS Professor Lynda Applegate in @hbsclubofdc last webinar. It was such an insightful event! Applegate highlighted that “Entrepreneurship is the relentless pursuit of opportunities without the regard to resources currently controles. Not reckless.” ⭐️

Last month @hbsclubofdc hosted a webinar with Timothy Mackey - UC San Diego School of Medicine Professor and Director of Research and Policy.

It was such a great, interesting event! We wanted to share with you some of Timothy’s work:

“We then need to map how these technology types and the features they enable can address specific healthcare goals. Some of the major goals for digital health are the categories in green, such as disease diagnosis, prevention, management, and improving patient safety; improving health equity and access, and making medicine more participatory and patient-centered. However, there are some challenges to mobilizing technology for these healthcare goals which are highlighted in gray. They include cost and accessibility considerations for technology, data and privacy concerns, establishing an evidence-base to ensure that these solutions actually improve health and wellness, and creating the economic incentives, such as reimbursement, to encourage their adoption. Some other broad categories that most if not all these technologies can enable are examples such as enhancing homecare services, enabling telemedicine, and accelerating precision medicine initiatives."
