Meet The Board-2026-2028

Founded in 2009, the International Black Women’s Public Policy Institute was created from a strong belief: by fostering connections among Black women of diverse backgrounds, ages, and cultures, the co-founders aimed to advance humanity through kindness, leadership, and public policy initiatives.

Today, that vision is alive in a powerful new way. This Black History Month, we honor this significant moment where twenty-three brilliant women from diverse backgrounds, countries, and cities across the United States, representing multiple generations, have come together as one unified Board of Directors to serve and lead the International Black Women’s Public Policy Institute into its next chapter.

This is more than governance. This is legacy in motion. This is a story of faith in God, faith in purpose, and faith in one another. This is a story of courage, the courage to lead, to speak, to build, and to protect spaces for Black women and girls globally. This is our story of deep roots grounded in truth, service, sisterhood, and the unwavering belief in our divine and historical contribution to humanity. Witness, in real time, what happens when Black women stand fully in who we are as innovators, protectors, visionaries, bridge builders, policy influencers, and global connectors. Witness what is happening with Black women and through Black women at a time that is meant to break us apart. Our readiness is not accidental. It is intentional. It is ancestral. It is prophetic. It is powerful!

IBWPPI demonstrates what can happen when we choose to embrace the truth about ourselves and our purpose for serving.
And this is only the beginning.

Hope and Faith ~ The New Currency

Dear Friend,

If I have ever said something or given something to inspire you in anyway, please take a moment to read this post to the end. I NEED YOUR HELP TODAY, PLEASE.

There is an unmistakable and deliberate attack on Black women led organizations like ours, the International Black Women’s Public Policy Institute (IBWPPI). www.Ibwppi.org

Seventeen years ago, Ka Flewellen and I co-founded IBWPPI with a simple but powerful idea: that Acts of Kindness should lead and be the foundation for good public policy. We began as five Black women, faith-filled and determined to build something lasting.
Today, that small circle has grown to 22 strong women, sisters who still believe that kindness, connection, skill and purpose can change the world.

We have crossed oceans to repair bridges between women who were once separated by misunderstanding and geography. Together, we’ve built relationships grounded in mutual respect and global sisterhood. We built a community that includes women across the Caribbean, the Continent of Africa and throughout the US.

The times are more complex than we could have imagined. Funding is scarce, government and corporate support have nearly disappeared. Our new currency is Hope and Faith.

Because of that faith:
82 healthy babies were born at the Sutherland Birthing Center, Our Impact, in Kumasi, Ghana where maternal mortality was once heartbreakingly high.

Dozens of girls and boys are thriving in school because we helped lift the financial burdens that kept them out of classrooms and provided books, uniforms and tuition support.

Women entrepreneurs who received just $200 (micro grants) have transformed their lives and businesses, proof that belief and encouragement can spark miracles.

Now, our focus turns to the US South ~ Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Florida. We remain steadfast in our mission to serve women and girls across the diaspora.

We desperately need your help. Whether it’s $10 or $1,000, your investment fuels real impact. Every dollar is an act of hope. Donate Here
Can I count on you today?
Let’s keep building bridges. Let’s keep the faith alive.

Calm in the Eye of the Storm
Dr. Barbara A. Perkins, Co-Founder and President

This fall, we are witnessing profound changes in lives and livelihoods across the United States and around the world. Every day seems to bring a new challenge designed to distract or deter us from the progress we are making. Yet, as Black women, standing firmly in the fight for justice, for our families, and for our communities, we will not waver, give up or be in distress. We remain focused on the mission and goals of our work.

At the International Black Women’s Public Policy Institute, we believe that this work is more than an organizational mandate, it is an assignment from our Creator. If we accept that we have been chosen to carry out this assignment, then we must also believe that everything we need will appear, in its time, exactly when it is needed. This truth anchors us in faith and fortifies us against the noise, the setbacks, and the daggers that may come our way.
Fall is a season of both reflection and renewal. As the leaves turn and the air shifts, I invite you to join me in embracing a strong and intentional start to the final quarter of this year. A Fresh Wind is on the horizon, one that will carry us into the future with clarity, power, and peace.

We find calm in the eye of the storm not by denying the storm’s presence, but by standing rooted in faith, purpose, and unity. Our collective strength has always been the force that builds bridges, sustains families, and opens doors of opportunity. Together, we will continue to rise above the challenges, knowing that the promise of tomorrow is greater than the problems of today.

With gratitude and determination, let us press forward, undaunted, unwavering, and unafraid.

Come with us. Join the International Black Women’s Public Policy today. We are not a perfect organization, but we are certainly committed to the changes we want to see. www.ibwppi.org
