I want to draw your attention to a new summer program for undergraduates here at AEI. The American Enterprise Summer Institute brings together 25 exceptional college students for a month-long program debating ideas about liberty and free enterprise and learning the principles and methods of public policy analysis.

It’s a great opportunity for students who want to get involved in public affairs and spend part of the summer in DC. Students attending the Institute get free housing, a $1,000 stipend, and up to $500 in travel expenses. Any college/university undergraduate or recent graduate is eligible to apply.

Katherine Mangu-Ward was one of the original 11 students who received the first scholarships under what was then called the Ronald Reagan Future Leaders Scholarship Program. Katherine is from Alexandria, Va., and is an alumna of Yale University, where she was active in the Yale Political Union and edited the Yale Free Press. She was a researcher for the New York Times op-ed page and began her career in journalism with The Weekly Standard. She has written for The Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, and other periodicals. In 2005, she was awarded a fellowship under The Phillips Foundation’s Robert Novak Journalism Fellowship Program. Currently, Katherine is Senior Editor of Reason magazine.
