Denim Day is April 29th!

Content Warning: mentions of sexual assault

Today, our chapter proudly participates in Denim Day, standing in solidarity with survivors of sexual violence and raising awareness for the importance of consent and education. Denim Day is recognized internationally as a symbol of protest against victim-blaming and harmful narratives surrounding sexual assault.

The movement began after a deeply unjust ruling in Italy during the 1990s, when a r**e conviction was overturned based on the argument that the survivor’s jeans suggested consent. In response, women in the Italian Parliament wore denim as a visible act of resistance. Their courage sparked a global conversation, and eventually a worldwide movement.

Since 1999, Peace Over Violence has continued this campaign each April during Sexual Assault Awareness Month. By wearing denim, we stand for survivors, reject harmful myths, and commit ourselves to creating a culture rooted in respect, accountability, and change. Denim is more than clothing today, it is a message that we believe survivors and stand together for justice.
