Today, Carlos Rosario School faculty, staff and Board members gathered in the auditorium of our Harvard Street Campus. They reconnected as a school community and prepared for starting the new year strong. After the meeting, the school community enjoyed an ice cream social held outside the auditorium, celebrating the beginning of the new school year.

Originally from Salvador, Celio completed his registration today!! He enrolled in ESL 1 and is excited for the the first week of school on September 3rd. He shared that learning English is one of his main goals this year. ✏️📓
Ayela, from Colombia, arrived in DC a year ago. She shared that her goal is to improve his English to help her son with homework and to open the door better job opportunitines!

El Tiempo Latino newspaper featured an article on our Board Chair, Hector J. Torres and Senior Advisor to our CEO, Jay Haddock for their support and advocacy for the minority community in DC. Over the many years they have shared life together, they have supported Whitman Walker Clinic, La ClĂnica del Pueblo, the Latin American Youth center, GALA Hispanic theater, the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Mary's Center and Washington Performing Arts to name a few. They have been recognized many times by local organizations and the District Government for their support of District residents.
Hector is a commissioner on the Commission of the Arts and Humanities and serves on the Community Capital Corporation (CCC) Board as well. While Jay sits on the board of directors of Events DC and the Hotel Association - both are advisory board members of GALA Theatre. Jay also served as chair of the Mayor's Office on Latino Affairs under Mayor Williams for 8 years.
Recently, Hector and Jay also co-chaired the 50-year anniversary of our wonderful School and have been involved with Carlos Rosario School for over 30 years. They are both of Puerto Rican heritage. “So glad that the community can know the beautiful story of your lives, your business acumen, your incredible and unique talents of making friends, connections and advocating for the Carlos Rosario school and others, and your priceless life partnership together,” shared Allison Kokkoros, CEO.

Tonight, Carlos Rosario School is well represented to 2024 Gala by our Culinary Arts students and staff. Our students prepared and served delicious food to gala attendees at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
Also, this year Carlos Rosario School was awarded the 2024 RAMMY Joan Hisaoka Allied Member of the Year Award by the Restaurant Association Metropolitain Washington.
