Today our staff is in professional development, sharpening their skills, sharing ideas, and learning new strategies to make our classrooms even better. Great teachers never stop learning, and we’re so proud of the dedication they bring every single day.

Our third graders showed up in their favorite jerseys, because when you’re here, our team is complete.

Here’s why that matters: third grade is the pivot from “learning to read” to “reading to learn.” Chronically absent students, those missing 10 percent or more of school days, are measurably less likely to read proficiently by the end of 3rd grade than peers with strong attendance. That gap doesn’t just disappear, it follows them into later grades.

Today wraps up Attendance Awareness Spirit Week, and our third graders showed up ready to read, ready to learn, ready to win.

Kindergarten and 1st grade students who miss 10 to 20 percent of the school year are far more likely to struggle with reading by third grade. That’s why 1st grade attendance matters so much, it’s one of the best chances to catch issues early.

1 in 10 kindergartners nationally misses a month of school every year, and in some districts it’s as many as 1 in 4. That adds up fast, chronically absent kindergartners show measurably lower performance once they hit 1st grade.
