District Clay Center

District Clay Center The District Clay Center is DC's largest ceramic center.

With over 6,500 square feet, it offers over 25 weekly classes, an artist program, master workshops and a ceramic gallery. In terms of equipment, the District Clay Center has 26 wheels, two electric kilns, a gas kiln, a glaze test kiln, two pugmills, a glaze spray booth, a slab roller and a 700 volume lending-library.

Join us to decorate your pots with sprig molds!
β€‹πŸΊ
In this 3-hour workshop with DCC artist Shana Deitch, students will learn how to embellish their work with sprig molds, texture mats, and underglaze for decorative effect. Starting from a leather-hard form, students will try a variety of sculpting and molding techniques to create scenery and decorative flourishes on their work. The class will finish with instruction in underglaze-painting and tips for achieving vibrant colors that don't run.

In this 45-minute class at District Clay Center, students will learn stretches and exercises for relieving the strain associated with clay work. Using accessible seated and standing poses, students will focus on the body mechanics of creative studio work: opening the wrists, forearms, neck, hips, and lower back.

In one of DCC's most popular workshops, participants will learn the mysteries of making, mixing, applying, and firing carbon trap shino glazes!

During this half-day workshop, students will glaze their work with four different shino glazes. Participants are invited to observe the firing on Sunday, October 4, and attend a special kiln opening on Tuesday, October 6.
