Campus Snow Procedures
As you can see, the DMV is in the midst of a snowstorm. I've been watching the news all morning, and they do not expect the snow to end before 1:00pm. That said, there are winds coming in that could cause additional issues like power outages.
Unless you absolutely need to leave, stay indoors. As a Midwesterner who is more than familiar with, and knows how to drive in, the snow, I understand the urge to think that "it's okay," but even I am planning to stay in today.
Power Outages
As mentioned above, there is a possibility that we could lose power at some point today. Should that happen, please do not panic. I can guarantee you that Residence Life, Facilities, and Pepco are all made aware of any campus power outage as soon as they occur. So unless you are certain your outage is unit-specific, do not worry about calling the RM on-duty. Understand that we are on Pepco's timeline, and while they are usually quick about restoring power, if there are many throughout the city, it may take some time.
Prepare now--grab your flashlight, keep your phones/tablets/computers on their chargers, and grab any blankets that you may have taken to storage.
Should power go out, the heat will also cut off. It is even more important that you stay indoors so the buildings can remain warm for as long as possible.
Car Relocation
If you have not already, please move your car to the center of the parking lot (the rows in front of Carroll). Do not park alongside Straughn, the AU fence, the library, or either driveway. This will aid Facilities as they plow and clean the parking lot.
Restrictions
As a reminder, personal/space heaters and candles (even in the event of a power outage) are strictly prohibited.

Hello all!
Just a reminder that as you're moving out, please do not leave your unwanted items in communal spaces (including Carroll lobbies, storage units, NRH kitchens/lounges). While your desire to donate is appreciated, we are not accepting donations at this time. Leaving items behind can be unsanitary, and it creates more work for Facilities and Residence Life staff as they have to dispose of your belongings.
Please be considerate of our staff, your neighbors, and our communal spaces.
Thank you!
I just spoke with Oscar, and he has asked that you only park in the center of the parking lot this weekend.
This would exclude the front of Straughn, alongside the library, AU fence, and both driveways. Should we get the accumulation we are expecting, Facilities will need to plow the snow on campus, and it is more difficult to do so if cars are spread throughout the lot. To be safe, we are requiring that you only park in the first 2-3 rows of the parking lot (the rows in front of Carroll).
Consider this a mandate. If you leave your car in one of the prohibited areas, it may be "snowed in," and Wesley is not responsible for digging it out. We're asking that your cars are moved by Sunday morning.
Good morning all! I just wanted to let you all know that maintenance is currently being done to NRH's and Straughn's entrance doors. If they are propped open for the next couple of hours, please do not close them. Your ID card will not work during this time, so it is important that they remained propped open. Workers will close them when the work is complete.
Happy Sunday! Due to the rainy weather, today's pumpkin patch has been rescheduled. The new date/time will be shared in tomorrow's "Mondays with Monica" email.
Have a great day!
Good evening all!
I know you don't usually hear from me on the weekends, but I just received information about meal service which begins this Monday, August 31st.
Meals will be offered M-Th, for BREAKFAST, lunch, and dinner. That's right, you will now have breakfast service as well. As mentioned in previous emails, Metz will offer an order/pickup service for the week, and have asked that you complete the following form by tomorrow at 6 pm: https://forms.gle/RaXZbJ6nzwY4PdAC6. This service is available to all residents, not just those on the meal plan. However, if you do not sign up for the meal plan semester charge of $1230, you will be charged $9/meal.
After tomorrow's deadline, you will need to complete the form by the Friday prior. For example, you will be completing the form twice this week, tomorrow (for the coming week), and by Friday, September 4th for September 8-10.
Pickup times (from the refectory) are as follows:
Breakfast-9am-1030am
Lunch-12pm-130pm
Dinner- 4pm-530pm
If you have additional questions, please contact Metz Dining directly.
Carroll residents--Facilities staff are conducting fire alarm maintenance today. This may cause our alarms to sound.
Taking our cue from Mayor Bowser, all residents are required to wear a face mask whenever leaving your apartment/room, even if you are simply going to an essential communal area, taking out the trash, or catching up with a neighbor. This is effective immediately and will remain until further notice.
Any guests who come to campus are to follow this mandate.
Reminders
-Guests, while allowed on campus, are restricted to your room/apartment. They are not to venture into communal areas.
-Lounges and the fitness room are closed until further notice.
-Communal kitchens are only to be used for the time it takes to prepare your food and clean your dishes. Refrain from eating in the kitchens or adjoining lounges.
-Contact our office immediately if you are feeling unwell and/or have tested positive for COVID-19.
Happy Friday-eve!
The mailroom has informed me that they have updated their hours of operation. They are now open Monday-Friday, from 8:30am-12:00pm; 1-4:30pm.
