Development Officer (full-time)

Reporting to and in partnership with the President, the Development Officer will spearhead development efforts at the St. Jerome Institute. The ideal candidate for this position has an enthusiasm for Catholic, liberal education and is comfortable with speaking to different audiences about it. Though development experience is preferred, this position is also available to recent graduates who want to build a career in development. The ideal candidate will possess a strong ability to write clearly and effectively.

Responsibilities:

Articulate and represent the vision, mission and culture of the St. Jerome Institute
Assist in executing SJI’s annual fundraising plan
Oversee organization of development events and initiatives
Develop and track proposals and reports for all fundraising
Manage the implementation of our fundraising system along with data entry and gift processing
Track gift commitments and actual gifts
Assist in securing financial support from individuals, foundations, and other donors
Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors and a sense of community with all donors
Cultivate a culture of giving in our expanding community

Qualifications:

BA (required)
Experience in development is preferred though not necessary - salary offer will be commensurate to experience
Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills
Knowledge of Raiser's Edge (or an analogous program) preferred

Freshmen volunteered at St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church in South West DC to help the parish with important tasks such as outdoor groundskeeping, indoor church cleaning and sorting of hymnals and other music materials.

Thumos Week concluded on Nov. 17th when the Junior Class was dubbed Champions of Thumos Week! To celebrate, the students performed in the Talent Showcase and SJI families came to watch dance, music and play performances. The school day concluded with the annual Apple Pie Contest with 6 pies entered. The judges chose Jeanne Schindler's pie as the winning pie. Thank you to everyone who volunteered during Thumos Week and a special thank you to our Assistant Headmaster, Mrs. Maggie La Prairie for organizing an exciting Thumos Week for our school!

We have had a really enjoyable few days of Thumos Week! During the week, each class is ranked based on the quality and creativity of their spirit for the day. The Sophomores were victorious on Monday with a tremendous display of festive hats and ties; yesterday, the Juniors won the Poetry Battle with an impressive number of poems memorized and recited. Happy Hallowmas! We feasted! Throughout the feast, the students competed against each other for prizes based on their knowledge of the saints. Here is one of the clues from the trivia game:

Dr. Peter Ulrickson gave the Society lecture “Speaking Mathematically, Yesterday and Today” on October 30th.
