The Gonzaga Water Polo team finished in second place in Flight II of the Beast of the East tournament over the weekend, marking one of the program’s best-ever finishes at the event. The Eagles won four hard-fought games, starting on Friday, 9/25, with victories over Cathedral Prep (13-11) and Wissahickon (11-8). The next day, the team advanced to the championship match by defeating Brunswick B (14-9) and Episcopal Academy (15-11). In a hard-fought final match against Cumberland Valley, the Eagles narrowly lost, 13-14.

Jack Singleton ’29 scored 32 of the team’s 66 goals over the weekend, while Kasper Parfomak ‘27 added 11. John Stubner ’27 led the team in assists with 9 and also recorded 11 steals. In goal, Chase Hutto ’28 anchored the defense with an impressive 39 saves.

The team is now 8-4 this season and will face Loyola Blakefield on Thursday, 10/1, in Towson, MD.

🦅🏒 It was great to have our Gonzaga Hockey players back on the ice this week. Although we are slated to have Tucker Road as our home ice rink again for the ’26–’27 season, our guys enjoyed being able to work out at Fort Dupont for the first time since its renovation and new management. The Eagles even welcomed a first-time skater to the ice and helped him take shots on goalie Claude Engle-Kes ’27.

A huge thank you to and her department for getting the rink back up and running for the Washington, D.C. community. “We are hopeful to have a few more workouts, practices, and maybe even a game back at the Fort this year,” said head coach Tony DiCarlo.

Look forward to the team’s schedule release in mid-October so you can mark your calendars to cheer on the Eagles this winter!

Last Friday night, Gonzaga’s Sports Broadcasting Club streamed the varsity football game against Archbishop Carroll! 🦅🎥

We were thrilled to welcome ESPN lead college football analyst and Gonzaga parent (’28, ’30) Heather Dinich to the broadcast booth to help call the game. Joining the team were student journalists from Georgetown Visitation, who joined as guests of the club and Ms. Dinich—a passionate advocate for the advancement of women in sports journalism.

The students did a tremendous job collaborating in the control room and on the mic to bring the game to our community. Thank you to Ms. Dinich and the young ladies from Visi for making this broadcast so special, and for helping us cheer on another huge Eagle victory!

As fall is upon us and our winter sports are just around the corner, we are sharing this recent photo of three Gonzaga alumni on the basketball court at Harvard University, as well as each alum’s senior yearbook portrait.

Thomas Batties II ’23 and Alex Touomou ’25 are gearing up for their senior and sophomore seasons, respectively, while Dr. Joseph McCarthy ’68 (middle) served in various roles at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, including as Chief of Staff and Senior Associate Dean and Director of Degree Programs.

Dr. McCarthy, Gonzaga’s 48th Kohlmann Address Speaker (2018), is an avid hoops fan and was a member of the Booster Club while on Eye Street. He’ll be rooting for Thomas and Alex on the hardwood this winter, just like all of us back here on Eye Street!

After working as an intern with the Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks this summer, Colin Watson ’20 has returned to Eye Street to become our newest assistant Athletic Trainer.

Colin served as a student athletic trainer during his time on Eye Street. In reflecting on his return to Gonzaga, he said “I’m incredibly excited for the opportunity to come back to a place that played such an important role in shaping who I am and to have the opportunity to give back to the community that helped shape me.”
