The Center City PCS Petworth campus had two exceptional speakers visit students during Black History Month.
The first speaker was Brian Keith Harris, the author of the bestselling book "I Am My History". Mr. Harris delivered an engaging and inspiring presentation that left a lasting impact on our students. The kids were captivated by his storytelling and powerful message, and it was truly a memorable experience for everyone involved.
Secondly, the Petworth campus had the privilege of meeting Mrs. Willie Mackey Pearl King, one of the last living colleagues of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Mrs. King helped pen and publish all of his letters from Birmingham jail.

We would like to congratulate our Center City PCS Congress Heights campus for being selected as a 2024 Bold Performance School!
Bold Performance Schools are the DC schools that boldly support priority students — students designated as at-risk, students with disabilities, and students of color — to reach academic success. Congress Heights amongst 11 other incredible schools are proving what’s possible, with proficiency rates 13.5 points higher than schools serving similar levels of priority students. They also are improving 3-4x faster than the District average since the pandemic.
Center City PCS Congress Heights is the only campus in the city to win this award every year. This is an amazing accomplishment and we are extremely proud!

TNTP, a leading national education nonprofit, released their new report, The Opportunity Makers: How A Diverse Group of Public Schools Helps Students Catch Up — and How Far More Can. In it, they feature seven "trajectory-changing" schools from around the country and Center City PCS Brightwood, was one of them!
TNTP asked how schools can help all students succeed, no matter where they start. They started by looking at nearly 28,000 elementary and middle schools where the average student was not yet on grade level and found that less than 5% of schools help students catch up if they’re behind. Not only was Brightwood part of that top group, they were in the top 2% of all U.S. schools for student learning growth! Brightwood students have averaged over 1.4 years of learning growth each year for the past ten years, even through the challenges of COVID.
For the past two years, TNTP has been at these seven schools studying students, teachers, leaders, and families. They wanted to understand what the Brightwood campus is doing right so other schools can learn. To see what they found, check out the report (https://lnkd.in/eJkEdbrg).
