It’s storytime 🤲 at West Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind with Sofia and Gianna from Motion Light Lab! ✨ We had a lot of fun together sharing stories:
🐥 Count with Us
🐶 A Day in Puppy’s Life
🌀 Museum of Errors
The Giant Turnip
🛩️ The Little Airplane That Could
… and more! ✨
Video Description:
Sofia is standing in front of a big town sign. Prominent at the top, a blue sign with yellow text: “Welcome to Romney” and immediately under: “Home of The West Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind”.
Sofia: Hello! We came here to… where? Hmm..
Gianna appears on the video and taps Sofia, “Look!”, and points behind her to the sign.
The video zooms in on the sign featuring Romney / WVSDB.
Gianna: West Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind!
Sofia: Wow! We’re excited! Come spend the day with us!
They turn and run toward the sign, and the video transitions as they run to the WVSDB main building. They turn around and cover the camera. The video turns black.
The video opens again with clips of Gianna and Sofia storytelling “Count with Us”, “A Day in Puppy’s Life”, “Museum of Errors”, “The Giant Turnip”, “The Little Airplane That Could”, and more. We can also see some students watching, reacting, and responding.
The video ends with students applauding at the end. The video transitions into a collage of two pictures: (photo at top) Tayla, Sofia, and Gianna in front of WVSDB’s main building, (photo at bottom) Sofia, Gianna, and Tayla, with WVSDB high school students all smiling to the camera. Some of them are signing ILY or the peace sign.
The video fades to black. WVSDB logo, ML2 logo, and VL2 logo appear. Video ends.

Happening right now in Jacksonville, Florida: the national Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) conference. We are proud to present our poster on ECHO training for healthcare providers ensuring optimal language development for Deaf and hard of hearing infants. Our training is centered in lived Deaf experiences, and we are excited to build a community of advocates and allies for the success of the Deaf child in EHDI systems. We are represented by two of our ECHO team members, Twila Latini, a Deaf language development and family mentoring expert, with decades of experience assessing and supporting thriving families, and Lynnette Mattiacci, another Deaf professional with a background in early intervention services who facilitates the ECHO sessions. (Not pictured, another team member: Mallorie Evans, an audiologist, who is working collectively to dismantle the audist and ableist attitudes in the EI framework.)
We will be offering training again this Fall (join the third cohort!).
This work is made possible with thanks to our partnership with the ECHO Institute at the University of New Mexico, and to the Lever for Change for funding this work, and our collective institutional partners: University of British Columbia, Visual Language and Access Lab at University of Rochester, TwilaSigns, Boston Medical Center The Pediatric Deaf and Hard of Hearing Collective, LEAD-K Family Services, REAL-Clerc Center, VL2, and Gallaudet University.
