Exploring the roots of resistance and the meaning of "home." 🏠✨ Our scholars took to the streets of Mt. Pleasant for a day of walking tours, photography, and deep dialogue. This is what it looks like when the city becomes our classroom.

Camp Haynes is turning up the heat with STEAM learning! 🔥 Campers explored the science behind building a fire alongside some of their favorite counselors, Ms. Jones, Mr. Wahid, and Ms. Bri.

From understanding how fire works to putting their knowledge into action, learning came to life in the most exciting way. And of course, we could not forget the marshmallow s’mores to celebrate their hard work! Be sure to register by May 29!

In 2026, the "average student" isn't just a myth—it’s a design flaw.

When we build innovation spaces for the kids who already thrive, we aren't innovating; we’re just polishing the status quo. At E.L. Haynes, we’re tearing up the old blueprint to build something entirely different: The Architecture of Participation.

We’re moving from inclusion-as-a-placement to inclusion-as-an-architecture. Here is what that looks like in the classroom:

The "Margins-to-Center" Strategy: We aren't retrofitting a makerspace for students with disabilities. We are building our Sensory & Arts Studio around them. When you solve for the most complex needs first, the environment becomes more flexible and human for everyone.
UDL at the Core: Our STEM and Literacy Labs aren't "modifying" lessons for some. Through Universal Design for Learning, we are co-authoring curricula that are accessible by default, regardless of how a student’s mind works.

AI as an Equity Multiplier: Efficiency is important, but we’re using AI to bridge gaps for multilingual learners and students with extensive support needs. It’s not just a tool; it’s a strategy for systemic dismantling.

As our CEO Toni Barton put it during the Google Innovation Fellow capstone: "Inclusion isn't a placement decision. It's a participation architecture."
We are done waiting for permission to build a system that actually fits our kids. We’re building the proof instead.

Join us in building Haynes 3.0.
