Gifted Academy Educational Center is a learning center that offers a traditional Christian education to its full time students.

It offers to students that are students at other schools a unique collaboration between GAEC/school/home. GAEC goal is to help develop leaders for Christ. Since COVID19 has limited many of our youths interactions and maturity, we will continue our Life Skills Lessons and enjoy many activities surrounding this year's theme: "Under the Sea." Our campers engage in arts and crafts, swimming, museum visits, touring the National Mall, exploring the National Zoo, lunch outings, and much more... REGISTER TODAY! Spaces are limited.

Gifted Academy Educational Center is searching for a reliable and trustworthy volunteer to join our organization. The volunteer’s responsibilities include completing tasks assigned by the supervisor, upholding the organization’s values, and maintaining a high degree of professionalism with all stakeholders.

You should arrive on time, follow instructions, and improve the overall operations of the organization.

To be successful as a volunteer, you should demonstrate active listening and problem-solving skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position focuses on aiding our center as a learning institution, while highschool juniors and seniors earn community service hours and college students acquire internship credit, working primarily with GAEC scholars in ways that reinforce scholarship, learning, as well as teach them new concepts.

You are to fulfill whatever task(s) is needed at the time.

QUALIFICATIONS

The participant should have a desire to one day want to work with kids professionally.

Must be at least an active highschool junior (11th grader).

Good communication skills and ability to convey intelligence and etiquette are expected to interact with parents and visitors of varying ages and backgrounds.

Moderate physical activity is to be expected.

This position requires handling of average-weight objects up to 35 Ibs and/or standing and/or walking on average of four hours per day.

Greets afternoon children as they enter the building in the afternoon, taking the temperature of each student with a digital thermometer, then documenting results.

Homework Helpers aid scholars from Early-Childhood through Highschool (possible) in all subjects regarding their day-of homework assignments, including reading and math.

At Gifted, your primary responsibilities may include re-teaching homework material (in case the student does not understand)

Supervise, interact with, and motivate students

Reward students for completed assignments

Evaluate and document student progress

Communicate student needs to the center director

Inspire and develop a rapport with students

Establish a fun learning environment \
Maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching

Refer or accompany disruptive students to the teacher/director

Staff annual Turkey Tuesday dinner, annual Christmas program, and promotional program

Performs other related duties as assigned.

WORK PERIOD

Required to work Monday through Friday, 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm, including these special evening events:
Turkey Tuesday dinner,
the annual Christmas program, and
Spring promotional program

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

Organizes materials for each group/student. Sets up learning stations, laboratory, and activity centers.

Supervises students while working; assists students having difficulty.

Leads and/or facilitates group discussions, sharing time, individual recitation, or individual work.

May prepare a variety of instructional materials including posters, charts, transparencies, game boards/cards, and other related materials if instructed to do so. Assists with bulletin boards, exhibits, and displays.

Observes and gathers assessment data on students. Discusses observations/progress of students with instructional staff.

May supervise lunch, playground, and transportation duties as directed.

Assists in the administration of tests/assessment instruments. Records data to record books/master charts/assessment forms.

Performs a variety of clerical tasks including correcting work papers/tests, keeping daily attendance, maintaining appropriate student folders/records, and other related tasks as assigned.

Works with teachers/students on special projects/lessons/assignments.

Assists in storing, inventorying, and requisitioning instructional materials, supplies, and equipment as directed.

Aids in organization/housekeeping tasks for laboratory, learning stations, work areas, or other instructional settings.
Attends and actively participates in staff development activities.

Refer or accompany disruptive students to the teacher/director.

Accompanies students on field trips, including evening trips: the annual National Christmas Tree field trip and a possible End of the School Year trip.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
