So fabulous to celebrate the brilliant 8 short films of the "Futures We Dream" film series in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday. Because of the omicron situation we had to do a virtual event instead of gathering at the gorgeous Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library. But it was great to see all the filmmakers and community partners, Leena Jayaswal and the folks at Project Create and The Alliance for Media Arts + Culture! And we had folks from Paris who joined in to watch! Thank you to all the organizers, viewers, funders, and especially to Leena for her wonderful filmmaking and excellent remarks today. Go check out Leena Jayaswal's "Dreaming In Green" featuring Storytelling with Saris and Project Create at the FUTURES exhibition in the Smithsonian Arts + Industries Building.
We are thrilled to share that the National Endowment for the Arts has awarded WIT a grant to support our work with Project Create! The grant will support improv classes for both youth participants and adult learners.

On December 7th the U.S. Surgeon General issued an advisory about the emerging mental health crisis for our nation’s youth.

Our greatest concern remains the needs of our students. Since last fall, Sitar is responding to the shortfall of mental health support for our youth with new arts therapy programs. Your gift to Sitar today can support Sitar's increased focus on therapeutic approaches to arts learning, including partnerships with Project Create and with Levine Music.

This is Nice encourages a positive, organic atmosphere for music lovers and dreamers alike. It is inspired by our favorite memories where the air feels light, the energy is just right… you think to yourself, this is nice : )

20% of all proceeds will be donated to Project Create, an organization in Anacostia that provides after school programs for children & young adults like art activities and our favorite—music programs and studio sessions.
Project Create offers unique opportunities to create art and develop important life skills for some of DC’s most vulnerable children. Their out-of-school-time arts programs give participants time to themselves, personalized attention, and freedom to create. Community partnerships make programs accessible to youth experiencing homelessness, so every child can create art, find opportunity, and connect with their community. Check out their Facebook to learn more!
We had a wonderful walking tour around #Anacostia with the Newsome Fellows last week!

Thank you to our partners for letting us stop by, giving us all an opportunity to learn about the neighborhood's deep history, experience the rich culture and see the many projects taking shape throughout the neighborhood.

Special thank you to Project Create , Ron Moten of Check It Enterprises, Anacostia Business Improvement District!

Welcome to Art to Go-Go! Anacostia Business Improvement District, with its Art, Culture, Entertainment, and Education (ACEE) Council, DC Office of Cable Television, Film, Music & Entertainment, District Department of Transportation, Project Create, and Lyft partnered to create the first corral ground mural, part of what will become a self-guided scooter tour in Ward 8. The first of six corrals debuted April 7, 2021!

The first mural is a collaboration of renowned #local artist Luis Peralta (@Luis202artist) and Wiley Brown 👉 https://bit.ly/3dSyEaY, son of Father of Go-Go, #innovator Chuck Brown. This public art project provides the #community and visitors a way to explore public art around #Ward 8 via scooter corral ground murals dedicated to DC's official sound of the city - #GoGo.

Head to the corner of Martin Luther King Jr., Avenue, SE, and U Street, SE (near Neighborhood Pharmacy) to check it out!
