Six students from Navajo Preparatory School in Farmington, New Mexico, were selected to serve on the Student Choice Award Jury at the Telluride Mountainfilm Festival. Throughout the event, the students viewed films from around the world, met filmmakers, and collaborated with fellow student jurors to select this year’s award recipient.
Mountainfilm and Telluride Academy provided the students with a unique and inspiring opportunity that broadened their perspectives and connected them with a global storytelling community!

Baca/Dlo'ay Azhi Community School in Prewitt, New Mexico, proudly celebrated its 6th-grade promotion ceremony in May! The school welcomed back former student and Navajo Nation Police Officer Izzac Larry as this year’s keynote speaker.
Officer Larry shared his journey from “a rez boy with big dreams” to earning a degree from Arizona State University and serving his community through law enforcement. He encouraged students to stay focused, work hard, and take pride in who they are.
He also presented Police Challenge Coins to our two top-performing students — a powerful symbol of leadership and perseverance. Officer Larry inspired the students and reminded them of what is possible through dedication, cultural pride, and community support.

Thanks to funding from the Great American Outdoors Act Legacy Restoration Fund, the Wounded Knee District School Board has begun construction to replace campus buildings and improve housing facilities at Wounded Knee District School in South Dakota. Work includes replacing the existing campus with new facilities, replacing the water distribution and sewer system, improving site drainage, installing security fencing, reconstructing roads, constructing new paved parking lots, replacing sidewalks, and renovating or replacing housing facilities. St. Francis Indian School in South Dakota lit up with creativity and community during the Parent and Community Engagement Event and Art Show! Families, students, elders, and staff came together to enjoy digital photography, telescope viewing, virtual reality, live painting, piano performances, and wellness activities. The art show featured 40 stunning student works, with 11th-grader Jacobi earning the People’s Choice Award for his outstanding mixed‑media piece.
