Congratulations to Georgetown University's 2021 Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Program Fellows Piyusha Mittal (School of Foreign Service ‘18) and Said Bilani (Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies ‘20)!
Previously, Piyusha was awarded a Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) to study in India and a Fulbright award to teach English in Andorra. Meanwhile, Said was awarded a Gates Millennium Scholars Program / GMSP Scholarship and is pursuing a Master’s in International Education Policy at Harvard University.

We are proud to announce that Harrison Nugent (School of Foreign Service ‘20) is one of 18 The Henry Luce Foundation Scholars for 2021-2022! Harrison aspires to work in national security, addressing complex legal questions regarding the state’s role in balancing security with the right to privacy. Through his yearlong residency in Asia on the Luce, he looks forward to working alongside legal scholars and security experts to address security issues that impact countries across the Pacific region. Mia Vanderwilt (School of Foreign Service - Georgetown University '19), one of Georgetown University's 2020 Rhodes finalists, is no stranger to extreme environments. Her research into extremophiles - microorganisms adapted to these environments - has taken her from the Juneau Icefield to East Antarctica, as she has sought to explore the extent of human environmental impacts on these ecosystems. We are excited to announce that Georgetown University alum Stefano Daniele (Georgetown College - Georgetown University ‘12) has been awarded The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans! Stefano is currently pursuing an MD/PhD at Yale, where he is working on developing the BrainEx technology and investigating its ability to restore circulation and cellular function in the brain hours after death. Georgetown Alumna, Google Social Advocate Awarded Gates Cambridge Scholarship - Georgetown College
Anita Williams (C’17), who now works for Google, will use her recently awarded Gates Cambridge Scholarship to pursue a degree at the University of Cambridge that will help her continue advocating for increased and diverse safeguards in technology to help protect vulnerable communities online.

Kawther Berhanu is a proud Eritrean American from Snellville, Georgia. Driven by her interests in international migration and peace and security, she majored in government and double-minored in Arabic and justice & peace studies at Georgetown University.
Outside of the classroom Kawther was deeply embedded in campus community-building including in the capacities of Muslim Student Association President, Campus Ministry Interfaith Intern, and Student of Color Alliance—African Society representative. Off campus, she co-coordinated a college prep program at Catholic Charities for refugee youth and volunteered for Sawiyan at the 7Hills Skatepark during a semester abroad in Jordan.
Kawther is pursuing her passion for public service as a Hill staffer where she has appreciated the opportunity to learn about the intersection of congressional politics and international affairs. Kawther is also a Gates Millennium Scholars Program / GMSP Scholar and Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Scholar.
