As the #1 landowning elementary school in DC with 19 acres of campus grounds, our Lower School students made the most of this month’s snow by trading the playground when it became iced over 🧊 for sledding adventures! 🛷🌨️ They had a blast zooming down the hill above our Garden & Outdoor Learning Space at the Foxhall Campus—just a short walk from Whitehaven. ❄️✨

Last week, students across all three divisions reflected on the inspiring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 🌟
Our week culminated in a beautiful K-Grade 8 Chapel, where:
🎵 Kindergarteners led us in singing “Oh Martin Luther King.” (Swipe to the end to read some of their dreams for the future!)
📖 Middle School students shared prayers and scripture readings.
✨ Malachi J. ‘26 delivered an excerpt from Dr. King’s iconic “I Have a Dream” speech.
📚 Day School Librarian Jamila Felton highlighted the history of The Green Book. The Green Book was a directory that listed hotels, restaurants, gas stations and other places where Black travelers in the United States could count on being served. A big thank-you to Mrs. Felton for creating the amazing graphics featured here!
💡 Assistant Head of School Erica Thompson shared a personal connection: Ms. Thompson’s grandfather, Merwin Branche, owned Reid’s Cafe, a restaurant and general store on Main Street in Farmville, Virginia. It was listed in the 1954 edition of the Green Book.
Through stories, songs, and reflections, we honored Dr. King’s enduring dream of justice, equality, and hope. 💚

Grade 2 students Joseph G., Anjana G., and Lulu S. beautifully sang solos during We Three Kings, bringing the story of the three wise men to life. 🌟
This special Chapel marked the end of the Christmas season and invited us to reflect on the journeys of faith and hope ahead in the new year. 💚💫

Yesterday, January 9, the American flag at the MacArthur Campus flew half-staff, and our community paused for a schoolwide minute of silence to honor the life and legacy of President Jimmy Carter—a leader, humanitarian, and inspiration to us all. 💚🇺🇸
