Umm Ruwaba, also Umm Ruwabah (أم روابة, Ruaba and Umm Ruaba), started as a village and grew up to become a vibrant city and commercial Center in the state of Eastern Kurdufan in the Sudanese’s MidWest and is the capital of the Umm Ruwabah District. amine. The famine of 1983--1985 had a particularly severe impact on the district. One of the main economic activities of the town is agriculture: millet crops for home consumption, sesame for sale in the local markets, and where the soil permits it sorghum is also grown for home consumption. Its yearly rain precipitation varies from 300 to 450 millimeters. Founded by the Ottoman Empire in 1820, is notable for the famous UMM RUWABA SERIES which is rich in distinctively great nutritive mineral underground purified water. It is said that this was the water used by the British Sudan Governor General in Khartoum during the colonial rule. UMM RUWABA’S strategic location between the Nuba Mountains of Southern Kordofan, Kosti on the White Nile, and Northern Kordofan made it a junction of important roads and camel caravan routes.
