“While TRAs have been constituent members of [ACPA & NASPA] for years, we have not been acknowledged or addressed separately from our multiracial colleagues. Not only has this erasure conflated the racialized experiences of transracial adoptees and multiracial folks (whom may have similarities, but whose experiences are not synonymous), it has contributed to the marginalization and invisibility of the TRA community in the field. The TAMKC name change is a formal recognition that honors the both/and of our community; that the TAMKC serves both transracial adoptees and multiracial people (and of course this includes multiracial transracial adoptees). I am honored to serve as the inaugural TAMKC Transracial Adoptee Advocacy & Education Coordinator and look forward to what lies ahead for the TAMKC!” -In solidarity, Aeriel A. Ashlee
