It’s the last night of Hanukkah, but we’re not ready to say goodbye. So one more throwback to Night 5. Thank you President DeGioia, members of the administration, and our partners in Campus Ministry for celebrating with us and supporting the Jewish community at Georgetown. Rabbi Daniel is now 95% fried potato and jelly donut, but it was a fun, meaningful, and joyous Festival of Lights.

We loved bringing Georgetown grad students from all campuses and programs together for the 4th night of Hanukkah at DC’s hottest Hanukkah pop up bar . It’s great to see and support local businesses showing Jewish pride and spreading joy.

Before she takes a well-deserved break, cruising through the Caribbean, we want to shout out our amazing Associate Director for Jewish Life, who makes everything at Georgetown Jewish Life possible. Deb oversees our fabulous GUish interns who welcome and engage new students., plans and organizes the Jewish Life retreats in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and is always available to meet with any student to talk about dogs, navigating college, Taylor Swift, and being Jewish. Whether she's delivering a d'var torah, baking challah, or offering excellent advice, Deb is building meaningful relationships and helping to strengthen our Jewish community. Thanks Deb! Now enjoy your vacation!

Last Thursday, we celebrated the first night of Hanukkah with latkes, singing, and even some impromptu dancing. Hanukkah is the Jewish Festival of Lights and light is a universal symbol, with different importance and meaning for each religion. This year’s Hanukkah celebration was enriched by Catholic, Muslim, Protestant, Hindu, Orthodox Christian, and Sikh students, who offered readings and blessings about light from their tradition as we lit the candles together. It was wonderful to celebrate something so particularly Jewish, in a community of many faiths and traditions. This University Hanukkah Celebration was a wonderful reminder that by letting the wisdom and beauty of our tradition shine, we invite others to do the same.
