On 7 May 2026, Amidon-Bowen 5th grader Lauryn testified in front of the DC Council school budget hearing, where she advocated for the FreshFarm FoodPrints Program. Besides providing food and nutrition education in the classroom, the organization operates Farmers Markets all over the country, offering those who rely on federal food assistance the opportunity to have access to locally grown fresh food and vegetables. Amidon-Bowen is proud of you, Lauryn! Thanks to Lauryn’s dad Robert, who attended the hearing and supplied additional footage for this video.

We’re in the final quarter of the 2025-2026 school year and Amidon Bowen, Southwest's neighborhood elementary school, has some exciting things ahead.
The PTA has a goal to raise 10k to support the following:
Treats and recognition for Teacher Appreciation Week in early May;
5th grade promotion activities in June, including a two-night camping trip that recently lost its DCPS funding.
The school needs support to cover transportation and the $250 per student participation cost.
The camp experience includes outdoor exploration at a working farm, hands-on science and environmental lessons, and more.
You can support the above events with monetary donations to our spring campaign, now through May 15th.
