Promoting Public Service and Strengthening Representative Democracy Domestically and Abroad

The United States Association of Former Members of Congress (FMC) utilizes the unique skill sets of its 800 members to provide pro bono public service programs and initiatives both at home and abroad. Using the expertise of its membership, FMC has created programs to educate about the role of Congress, assist Congress in its international relations, and support emerging democracies abroad, all while providing opportunities for members to stay connected with their colleagues.

FMC was thrilled to partner with Embassy of Japan in the USA to host an appreciation reception for Congressional schedulers and chiefs of staff! These staffers are the cornerstone of Congress and essential to the success of their offices, and we’re proud to celebrate them. Thank you to DCM Shimada and Fmr. Congressman Jim Moran for sharing remarks with the group, and to everyone who joined us in recognizing the hard work of Congressional staff!

Thank you Temple University, Japan Campus for welcoming our Chief of Staff delegation to your campus! The group spoke with students about AI, bipartisanship, and the U.S.-Japan relationship, and learned more about attending an American school in Japan. We’re grateful to engage with these young leaders – Go Owls!

While in Tokyo, our Chief Delegation sat down with representatives from the Embassies of Australia, the Republic of the Philippines, and South Korea in Japan for a roundtable discussion on regional challenges these nations are facing surrounding security, trade, and energy. We’re grateful to be able to learn more about these concerns from our allies in the Pacific, and thank them for their time!

Yesterday, the FMC board unanimously elected the Hon. Donna Edwards as the newest President of FMC! We were proud to watch as outgoing president Barbara Comstock passed the gavel on, and look forward to an amazing two years under Congresswoman Edwards’ strong leadership and vision!

We’re also pleased to introduce Dennis A. Ross JD as President Elect, Rep. Larry Bucshon and Val Demings as Vice Presidents, and Barbara Comstock as Immediate Past President. Congratulations to the new Executive Committee - we're excited to see the work they accomplish this term!
