Unlock Your Meditation's Full Potential with These Three Simple Steps ✨🧘‍♀️:

1. ALWAYS FINISH YOUR SESSIONS.

If you set your timer for 15 minutes, or whatever time you choose, stay and finish your practice no matter what! You will be tempted to get up, check your email, do your chores, etc. It’s amazing how motivated the mind can become when faced with doing nothing. Don’t fall for this trap! Sticking through is perhaps the most crucial factor in successful meditation.

2. DON’T STRESS OVER TECHNIQUE.

There are MANY valid meditation techniques. No one has a monopoly on being successful. Whichever one you have chosen, be confident in it and stay with it for your session. It’s so easy to become paralyzed by analysis when ultimately, the most important thing is just sitting down and practicing in the first place.

3. KEEP COMING BACK.

Just as important as it is to finish the sessions you’ve started, it’s essential to keep up with the practice over the long term. You’ll have good days, terrible days, and even the occasional incredible day! Practice is like life. It has many different flavors, and you must experience them all. I promise that if you keep returning to your meditation practice over the long term, you will have genuinely transformative results.

These three steps have created the foundation of my meditation journey. Don't underestimate the power of consistency and dedication – it's the key to unlocking your meditation's full potential.

Hey there Facebook land! I just wanted to let you know that I won't be doing much on here moving forward. I need to keep this page alive to crosslink with Instagram for technical reasons, but I don't plan on actively posting here.

Alright everybody, big (HUGE) news time!

In about 3 weeks' time, Carrie and I will be moving to LA!!

Specifically West LA, in the Sawtelle Japantown district.

We are really excited about this new journey, but of course sad to leave our home in DC after 5 happy years.

We have truly loved living in this city, and we are only leaving because we felt it was time for a new chapter and some new adventures!

As for how this will affect my teaching, because of the move to zoom over the last two years much of my virtual schedule will actually remain intact. Of course, I will have to give up my in-person classes in DC, but I hope to rebuild my live class schedule soon after we have settled from our move. If anybody has any good yoga contacts in LA, do let me know... ;)

Once we have relocated and settled, this is my anticipated online schedule:
Monday 12pm EST - Flow via Dragons Breath Yoga Dragon's Breath Yoga
Wednesday 12pm EST - Flow via Dragons Breath Yoga
Thursday 12pm EST - Yin via Circle Yoga Circle Yoga
Thursday 7:15pm EST - Yin via Dragons Breath Yoga
Sunday 9am EST - Level 1/2 via Circle Yoga
Sunday 10:15am EST - Level 2 via Circle Yoga

This may of course change/evolve over time, but I'm so happy to be keeping so much of my online schedule, even though I'm moving thousands of miles away!

I will obviously need to sub all of my classes for the move starting on 5/23, but I plan to be back online the week of 6/6.

If you are in the DC area and would like to connect before I leave, don't hesitate to DM me!

For me, this quote sums up the essence of metta, or lovingkindness.

The way we treat ourselves becomes the image we project back onto others. And the way we treat others becomes a mirror of the way we treat ourselves.

By treating ourselves with kindness and compassion, we can become more kind and giving people in the world. And the fruits of that will be returned back to us in turn!

It's easy to underestimate the power of 'simple' poses.

While Instagram is flooded with posts of people in crazy inversions, binds, and other feats of flexibility, this is not the core of one's practice.

Indeed, the most athletic Yogis are surely primed by years of mastering the basics. Otherwise they wouldn't be able to show this level of mastery.

Wherever you are in your yoga asana journey, don't neglect the essentials. They provide the foundation for everything else that's built on top of it!

I pride myself on helping students master the fundamentals of their practice.

The older I get, the more I appreciate the power of simplicity.

In yoga as well as life, it's far too easy to overcomplicate things.

That is the real beauty of Yin Yoga.

Safely set up a pose. Relax the body. Remain relatively still for a while. Repeat.

That's it!

And yet, within this simple practice there is so much power to release the body and mind. There is a deep and subtle challenge in remaining undistracted within the stillness.

It's from simplicity that the real magic in life happens.

How do feel about simple practices? Let me know in the comments!

Do you know the difference between Yin Yoga and Restorative Yoga?

While the two practices have a lot in common, there are some important differences.

Are there any differences that I missed? Do you see the two practices differently than I do?

Let me know in the comments!

Don't go it alone!

Almost two years into this global pandemic it's so easy to forget about the importance of community.

Practice is best served by the support of a Sangha, or community of like-minded friends on the path.

Remember, whether it's online or in-person, practicing together is one of the best ways to support your personal journey and keep you healthy and connected along the way.

I offer over 10 live classes each week. All are available for live stream from anywhere in the world, and I have a few limited in-person options in the DC area.

Check out robphillipsyoga.com for my latest schedule!
