IFW2016 Visit to the World Bank - Social Protection and Labour, and more 03/24/2016

Video: Visit to the World Bank - Social Protection and Labour, and more (27 Jan 2016)

Have a look behind the scenes at another of the sessions at the IFW 2016 in January! These show the discussion with Mr Andrew Mason and Ms Anita Schwarz of the Social Protection and Labour Practice of the World Bank, where Kiho Muroga presented her research on female labour force participation, and we had a fruitful discussion on the latest research regarding population issues and labour. Check out the subsequent dialogue with Ms Keiko Saito from the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery as well, where the Space Team took over again, and we heard interesting and surprisingly honest views on the scientific community in policymaking.

The IFW2016 Team visited Space X and the Space Policy Institute on 25 and 26 Jan 2016. They had an interesting discussion on the use of mass-produced small satellites for disaster monitoring, and other issues related to space policy. We decided that these insights should not be kept among ourselves, and the members filmed a wrap-up video to record some of their thoughts. We hope you would share in these learning points, and it would spur further discussions back in your own academic and professional communities as well.

The final visit of the International Field Workshop 2016 took the team to ideas42, a non-profit organisation based in New York, NY. It specialises in using behavioural sciences to advise agencies and organisations on low-cost, high-impact tweaks to programmes, which would help individuals make decisions that are beneficial for themselves. The team had a fun and interactive session with Mr Anthony Barrows and Ms Katy Davis, Vice Presidents of ideas42. More to come in a report.
