Congrats to everyone who ran the Army Ten-Miler on Sunday! Whether you raced, pushed through a tough workout, or spent the weekend on fall yard work, it can be hard to tell whether you're just sore or actually hurt. Here's a general guide.
Normal soreness usually feels dull and achy, spreads across a muscle, shows up a day or two after new or harder activity, and improves within a few days.
It's worth getting checked if you notice sharp or pinpoint pain, swelling or bruising, a joint that feels unstable, numbness or tingling, pain that travels, or pain that isn't improving after a week or two. The same goes for anything that changes the way you walk, sleep, or move.
Catching an injury early usually means a shorter, simpler recovery. And since Virginia allows direct access, you can book an evaluation with a physical therapist without waiting on a referral. We'll come to you anywhere in Northern Virginia. Call (703) 637-9500 or visit dcactivehealth.com.
(If you have severe pain, significant swelling after a fall, or signs of a medical emergency, seek urgent care first.)
