Leila Hanuami, a Deaf Asian-American accessibility advocate, content creator, entrepreneur, and artist, created the Midori Series, writing and signing each story with support from illustrator Issac Liang, a Deaf Chinese Singaporean based in Bangkok and Singapore. She also shared why this series matters to her and what she loved most about the creative process.

You can enjoy the Midori Series in the Bilingual Bookshelf app right now: clerc.cc/bsbapp.

The Midori Series includes:
• Midori Does It Herself
• Midori Takes Her Time
• Midori Is Happy and Sad
• Midori Won’t Say Good Night
• Midori Dreams at Night

Families, if you have a child under the age of 3, sign up for free access to the books in the app at https://clerccenter.gallaudet.edu/real/bookshelf-app/.

Explore the Midori Series and let us know which story is your favorite!

Watch how this teacher models a skill, practices it together with students, and then hands it over for independent practice, all within one lesson. This gradual release framework using "I do, we do, you do" is powerful!

A small move with a big impact: proximity. By staying visually available and resisting the urge to interrupt, the teacher supports student independence, engagement, and confidence - all at once.

Last week, the Clerc Center welcomed school administrators from across the country for our annual Administrator Summer Immersion Experience (ASIE).

Representing schools for the Deaf and public school programs serving deaf and hard of hearing students, the goal was simple: equip educational leaders with practical, ready-to-implement strategies, systems, and applications they can bring back to strengthen teaching, learning, and student outcomes in their own schools and districts.

Together we are transforming education for deaf and hard of hearing students.
