In 2013, the General Assembly passed a resolution establishing Nov. 2nd as the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists. The resolution reaffirmed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and each year on this day Member States are reminded of the importance of ensuring “a free and safe environment for journalists and media workers in both conflict and non-conflict situations, with a view to strengthening peace, democracy, and development worldwide.”

In assuming the roles of France and the World Trade Organization, the two teams engaged in debate and negotiations regarding terrorism financing, trade regimes, climate change, immigration, and much more. Special thanks to AU's School of International Service for hosting the successful event!

In 2007, the United Nations adopted a resolution designating October 2nd as the International Day of Non-Violence. This day was chosen as it marks the birthdate of Mahatma Gandhi -- an advocate for peace who reminded us that "in a gentle way, you can shake the world." As an official international day, the UN sought to formally reaffirm the universal relevance of the principle of non-violence and the desire to secure a culture of peace, tolerance, understanding, and non-violence. Today, Ghandi's words are as important as ever as we mourn the loss of those impacted by the tragedy in Las Vegas.
