Call for Papers: 2027 Howard University African Studies International Conference
The Department of African Studies at Howard University, in partnership with the University of the Free State School of Law, invites submissions for the 2027 Howard University African Studies International Conference, themed “AI and Transformation in Global Africa.”
Conference Dates: 12–13 February 2027
Location: Howard University, Washington, DC (Hybrid Format)

Congratulations to Ana Lucia Araujo, Professor in the Department of History at Howard University, on her appointment as one of the five editors of African Economic History—a leading journal advancing scholarship on African economies across time and disciplines.
Please consider submitting a paper to the journal. Papers and reviews of books are accepted in English, French, and Portuguese.
They recently published a review of Dr. Benjamin's new book and Dr. Araujo is co-editing a forthcoming special issue "Africa and Capitalism: Connecting Economic, Material, and Visual Dimensions in the Era of the Transatlantic Slave Trade" that will be out later this year, and there will be a panel on this special issue at the next meeting of the African Studies Association in New Orleans.

On Tuesday, our event: AI, Data, and Africa: The Future of Global Innovation, brought critical conversations to the forefront at Howard University—exploring how artificial intelligence and data are shaping Africa’s role in the global future.
Featuring Dr. Uyi Stewart of the Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth and moderated by Dr. Amy Yeboah Quarkume, the discussion centered on inclusive innovation, equity, and African-led solutions in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
Hosted by the Center for Applied Data Science and Analytics (CADSA), led by Dr. Talitha Washington, in collaboration with the Center for African Studies, with support from the AI Advisory Council and the Office of Academic Innovation and Strategic Initiatives.
