Last week, we joined hands with SAIS Global Mappers to organize a panel discussion on the Role of Spatial Data in International Development.
Geographic information systems (GIS) data is increasingly shaping the way development practitioners plan, monitor, and make decisions about a wide variety of projects. It allows for new analytical approaches to questions in conflict management, climate change, urban planning, economic development initiatives, and more.
This panel brought together experts from academia, the private sector and multilaterals to discuss how GIS is used in, and transforming, the development sector. The panelists also spoke about their own career trajectories in the field, and how SAIS students can gain GIS-related skills that can prepare them for a competitive professional market.
Thanks to everyone who participated!
