Every day, millions of kids go to school, read a textbook or watch a video and come away thinking, "I don't get it" or "I'm confused". Parents, teachers and kids themselves know how frustrating that can be and how kids can come away thinking that they're not smart or good at learning. For the past couple of years, I've been working on a method to teach kids to self-assess their own knowledge to figure out what they know and don't know. The good news is that kids can learn to do this very reliably in about 10 minutes by following a 1 page self-assessment example. We've just completed a study that's been accepted for publication that shows that kids can use that self-assessment to go back to the materials they learn from and fill in their knowledge gaps, thereby raising performance and average of 15 points or 1.5 letter grades compared to kids who simply relearn the material without the self-assessment. As part of the health and longevity software we are creating, we're making a social media platform that is devoted exclusively to health, longevity and staying young. Rather than having to jump from group to group on Facebook or Reddit, this would be an all in one platform that would let people connect, share health and longevity tips with each other, access resources like videos and motivate each other to keep up a healthy lifestyle. I'm wondering if this would be worth making into a standalone, free social media site.
