So much of our language is intertwined with our culture and so much of American culture is intertwined with African-American culture. The intersection of the two informs our language and language use and I would be doing my clients a complete disservice by not enlightening them to this important relationship.

Over the years of owning and operating World English Tutor, LLC, I’ve worked with clients from all over the world but this particular client changed my life and my world view. Through open and transparent conversations about each of our unique experiences as women entrepreneurs, she and I found so many parallels between our cultures despite being from countries on two opposite sides of the world (…and history at one point).

I’m grateful to be able to encounter individuals whose experiences are rich, deep and genuine. This woman was a survivor of the Pol Pot regime and despite having endured some of the most traumatic experiences most of us have only read about in history books, she has gone on to become a successful business owner, mom and loving wife to the Ambassador of Cambodia to the US.

𝔻𝕚𝕕 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕜𝕟𝕠𝕨 that after the brutal and widely televised murder of that protests demanding justice and the end of police brutality of Black Americans took place in every state in the US and tens of countries around the globe?

As a Black-owned company, responsible for the authentic and relevant language instruction of international professionals, we find it impossible to teach the American English language without tying in aspects of American culture which is largely influenced by African-American culture.

We pride ourselves on our ability to inform international adults about the significant contributions that Black people have made to the history, culture and economic advancement of the United States.

By doing this, our clients are prepared to better understand the outrage felt by Black people around the world when one of our own is unjustly murdered at the hands of those who are sworn to protect us.

We stand with and in solidarity of every person around the world who demands equal rights and opportunities for people of color.
