Last Friday we had our all-school rules assembly. Prior to this, students had been creating lists of rules in their classes. Students talked about being respectful, trying your best, having fun, and other values that are important to them. At the assembly, students across different grades met in groups to discuss and vote on which rules are the most important to them. Student council will now take these votes into consideration and develop a list of rules for the whole school to ensure that we are always learning in a safe, welcoming, and joyful space.

Calling all Sheridan Caregivers,

We are excited to announce plans for several ‘caregiver/parent education and discussion events’ for the 23-24 school year. We all know it takes a village, so we’re hoping to pull together our village, our Sheridan Community, to learn with each other. We’re looking to engage this year around a variety of topics that caregivers might find useful as we all do our best to navigate and support our children’s development. These discussions will be facilitated by members of your Sheridan team.

Our first session will focus on Yardsticks (Child and Adolescent Development Ages 4-14), a comprehensive guide that helps caregivers and educators better understand students’ social and academic lives through a developmental lens. The Yardsticks series is published by the Center for Responsive Schools, and works in alignment with Responsive Classroom, our social emotional approach at Sheridan. Each year, Sheridan distributes age-specific Yardsticks pamphlets during our Back to School Night, and during this event we will lead caregivers on a deeper dive into this resource.

We invite all caregivers of students K-8 to join us at Sheridan on Thursday, September 28, from 9:00 am - 10:00 am for this first learning/discussion event. We hope you’ll join us!

Please RSVP here to let us know you’re coming. https://forms.gle/YTm3JTwYBCfc4HLQ8
