Our Story

This page is part of the LAC Reads information network for teachers, policy makers, education professionals and parents interested in Early Grade Reading in Latin America and the Caribbean. It is an integral element of the LAC Reads Capacity Program.

The LAC Reads Capacity Program is a Regional USAID initiative implemented from 2014-2019, enhances efforts to boost early grade reading outcomes in the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua and Peru, as well as Eastern Caribbean states. Project implementing partners include the Organization of American States (OAS), the Centro de Investigación y Acción Educativa Social (CIASES) in Nicaragua, the Fundación para la Educación Ricardo Ernesto Maduro Andreu (FEREMA) in Honduras, EduConnectJa in Jamaica, and EDUCA in the Dominican Republic.

LRCP goals will be achieved through the implementation of the following four principal results:

1. Evidence on early grade reading is collected, consolidated, and systematized for practical use by LAC region stakeholders.

2. Up-to-date knowledge about early-grade reading actively is disseminated to targeted audiences and stakeholders.

3. Institutional capacity to implement proven approaches for improving early-grade reading outcomes for poor and disadvantaged children is expanded.

4. Sustainable platforms are in place through which efforts to improve early grade reading in priority LAC countries will be continued and strengthened.
