Academy of Hope is proud to expand its footprint with the Sycamore Campus, our third location at 1201 Sycamore Drive SE on the 6th and 7th floors.

The Sycamore Campus expands access to adult education, career training, testing, learner support, and workforce programming, serving as a centralized hub for much of AoH’s workforce education.

As more adults pursue education and career goals, we’re creating more opportunities for learners to build skills, earn credentials, and create pathways to economic mobility. Learn more at www.aohdc.org/blog!

🎉 Congratulations to Academy of Hope's very own Janet Agyaben on being named an EECG Adult Education Heroes Teacher Award recipient! 🏆

For the past three years, Janet has taught Mathematics, Science, and GED Preparation at Academy of Hope, helping adult learners build the skills, confidence, and strategies they need to reach their goals.

What she loves most about AoH is the people and sense of community, especially the opportunity to support learners as they overcome challenges, grow in confidence, and achieve their goals.

Janet shared that she is “honored, grateful, and humbled” by this recognition, and sees it as a reflection of the incredible learners and colleagues who inspire her every day.

We’re so proud to celebrate you, Janet! 💛👏🏾

Big news! 🎉 Our CEO Lecester Johnson has been named a 2026 Luminary with The CAFE Group's 1954 Project!

Through The 1954 Project, a Luminary receives $1 million in unrestricted funding, leadership support, and access to a network of leaders working to advance Black learners and communities. This means our mission to provide high-quality adult education and services that change lives and improve communities is going to expand to fruition and strengthen this work for the long term.

Follow us and The CAFE Group to see what being a Luminary is all about!

Adult education creates pathways to achievement, opportunity, and economic mobility. 📚

In the most recent reporting year, 72% of adults in federally funded adult education programs earned a high school equivalency, up from 66% the year before. Research also found that adults who participated in at least 100 hours of adult education saw an almost $10,000 increase in annual earnings.

These numbers show what’s possible when adults have opportunities to build skills, earn credentials, advance their careers, and pursue new opportunities.

During Adult Education & Family Literacy Week, we welcomed COABE to Academy of Hope to see that impact firsthand. COABE visited our campuses to learn more about AoH programs and hear directly from staff, learners, and graduates, including graduates who have entered the workforce and are pursuing postsecondary degrees.

Swipe through for a look at their visit and the power of adult learning at Academy of Hope.

It’s Adult Education & Family Literacy Week!

This week, we’re celebrating the power of adult education to strengthen individuals, families, and communities. When adults have opportunities to learn, grow, and reach their goals, the impact can extend across generations, creating pathways to greater opportunity, economic mobility, and well-being.

And we’re taking that message beyond the classroom. During , Academy of Hope is joining COABE for its annual Flood the Hill advocacy event to highlight the importance of adult education and advocate for increased investment from leaders and policymakers.

Because adult education is an investment in people, families, and stronger communities. Learn more and join the movement at aohdc.org/blog!

Fall semester is officially underway at Academy of Hope!

Yesterday, we welcomed new and returning high school learners as they kicked off the Fall 2026 semester. This semester brings something new: afternoon classes! Learners can now choose from morning, afternoon, or evening programming to find a schedule that works for their lives.

Because work, family, school, and other responsibilities don’t stop. Education should be flexible enough to meet adults where they are.

Here’s to a strong start and a semester full of learning, growth, and reaching new goals!

A new campus, a new semester, and new opportunities!

This week, new and returning workforce learners were the first to experience Academy of Hope’s new Sycamore Campus during fall orientation. Learners got to explore the new space, learn more about their programs, and prepare for a successful semester.

As we kick off National Workforce Development Month, we’re celebrating the learners who are building skills, pursuing their career goals, and creating pathways toward economic mobility. Here’s to a strong start at Sycamore! 💛

At Academy of Hope, we’re more than a school. We’re a family!

Our CARES Values: Community, Acceptance, Respect, Empowerment, and Service, shape the culture we create every day. They help us build a place where people can be themselves, support one another, and work together toward their goals.

But don’t just take our word for it. Hear directly from members of the AoH community about what makes our school feel like family. ✨

It's a new chapter for Academy of Hope! We’re excited to announce that we’ve received our Certificate of Occupancy for our third location, the Sycamore Campus at St. Elizabeth’s! 🎉

Starting this fall, learners will be able to take classes at our new campus, which will serve as a centralized hub for much of AoH’s workforce education while bringing the same learner centered experience our community knows and values.

We’re excited for what this new space will mean for our learners and our continued growth across DC.

More details about Sycamore are coming soon. In the meantime, take a look at these photos and see how the campus has come together!
