Dear Members,

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eugene "Red" MacAllister, a founding member of NASSLEO. Mr. MacAllister, aged 87, dedicated his career to law enforcement, serving as a Police Officer for Homestead Police and later with Miami-Dade Schools Police from 1968 to 1996. He held the esteemed position of School Board Police Chief for over two decades. Eugene "Red" MacAllister's passion for keeping our children safe, contributions, and legacy within our organization will be deeply missed. His leadership commitment to keeping kids safe was without equal.

May God bless the souls of those little children and adults. We owe them and their families all of our leadership on keeping our kids safe.

NASSLEO is grieving with the families of the innocent lives taken in this horrific tragedy. Nineteen children and two adults will never come home from their school. Our deepest condolences go to the families and loved ones of the victims of yet another mass shooting in the United States – this time at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, where the majority of the victims were children.

Gun violence in our country is stealing the lives of children and traumatizing their families and communities. It is also having a deeply adverse effect on the ability of all young people to learn. We know that students who do not feel safe inside their classrooms can’t reach their best potential.

NASSLEO envisions a future where all children are free from school shootings and other acts of violence. As a national nonprofit organization based in school safety management, we’re all committed to empowering our school communities.

NASSLEO believes great leadership will help create and promote the answers that lie in proven techniques such as threat assessment programs, training programs with multiagency round table training, a cohesive gun policy that protects our children, and all efforts to work together toward the common goal of keeping our community safe from emerging threats.

Today NASSLEO grieves with the families of the innocent lives, the communities affected, and all who care about those taken and effected in this horrific tragedy.

Let’s do better together. Let’s keep our kids safe.
