As the topic of alternative paths to licensure trends across industries, it is becoming increasingly timely in our own field with NCARB and the Minnesota licensing board planning to come together as soon as January to explore removing higher education requirements for licensure. NAAB values both the role of in providing for and the importance of in the architecture community. We see the topic of alternative paths to licensure as nuanced and multi-faceted and recognize the importance of creating a forum in which the architectural education community can come together to share perspectives and give these issues the necessary time and attention.

NAAB President Dave Hoffman recently presented at the AIA Atlanta Christopher Kelly Leadership Development Program (CKLDP). An important conversation about the challenges that emerging professionals face related to mental health. It was great to be part of discussions with emerging professionals, local firm leaders, and NCARB on issues ranging from how serious studio culture is taken in architecture school to the changing nature of work due to WFH/hybrid flexibility. We were excited to share how NAAB Conditions for Accreditation support mental well-being for students in NAAB-accredited programs. Thank you for inviting NAAB to be a part of this important conversation!
