Sonny's Patch

Sonny's Patch Lawrence "Sonny" Maniscalco, born with a CHD, now recipient of a donor heart. This is currently the ONLY legitimate donation page. Feel free to share this link.

Thank you to everyone for all your support for Lawrence "Sonny" Maniscalco and the rest of our family. For those who don't know his story, Sonny was born with the Congenital Heart Defect (CHD), Hypo-plastic Right Ventricle, this means his lower right chamber of his heart never grew. In his short life he has had many life saving procedures including but not limited to two open heart surgeries. Desp

ite the rough, lengthy recoveries and feeding complications early in his life, he has always remained a happy, and very affectionate little boy. He was doing well after recovering from his last surgery in July. 2 weeks ago he came down with something that a Pediatrician diagnosed as a common cold. A week later on, November 3rd, he was sitting playing with his toys on the floor in our living room when suddenly he began screaming and slumped over. I picked him up and changed his diaper and noticed immediately he was having all the symptoms of a stroke on the left side of his body. We raced him to the local hospital and then he was flown to Children's National Hospital in D.C. The amazing care team of Nurses, cardiologists, Neurologists and many other specialists ran many tests and are doing all they can to keep him stable as possible and resting so that his brain can heal. If Any money received will go to help us cover his medical expenses and his parents traveling expenses. Prayers, encouragement, and supportive messages for our Heart Warrior can be left in the comment box and I will read them to him as they come. I am humbled and enlightened to know that so many people have come together to support us over these past few days. He is such a fighter! Thank you!

*UPDATE:
Sonny is recovering very well from the effects of a stroke, however his heart didn't regain enough strength to sustain him. So he needs a heart transplant, on Christmas Eve he was approved and put on the transplant list. Now we are waiting for the call saying that that there is a heart that will be just right for him. Our goal is to raise awareness of Congenital Heart defects and to proudly share our precious Son's journey. Any donations received will go to help his family with the extra traveling expenses as well as helping to pay Sonnys medical bills. Thank you to everyone who has liked and shared this page. Please continue to share our updates!

We are at R1 status for his Biopsy! This shows that isolation and the increased medications are helping! We are still waiting to hear about his Donor-Specific Antibodies, and if those are also good then we have succeeded.
This doesn’t mean we will be returning to school, or going to large gatherings. It just means it’s getting better! ❤️‍🩹 This week has been a tough one for him, the Cath was for once, not the hardest thing we’ve gone through. This week he took all of his SOL tests at school, he is completing any missing assignments online from his teacher, he gets help from his evening Google classroom Teacher. And when he isn’t learning there, he gets to spend time with me, helping around the house, playing, chatting about this and that…
We have missed out on a lot because of this. But as I’ve said before, this isolation is granting us the gift of Time.

We are not where we were expecting to be tonight. His biopsy from his procedure yesterday came back R2 which is a moderate amount of rejection. So we are getting some in-hospital IV treatment for the next few days. Boo.

He’s waking up, slowly, had some juice. The surgeon said his heart looks great and the pressures in his heart are much improved! Now we wait the final 3 of his mandatory 6 hours.

An hour early for Cath 2021! Technically it’s the second one of this year. He’s not even complaining about having to put on the anesthesia mask today.
