We don’t use the term menstrual hygiene because there is nothing dirty or unclean about periods.
When girls are taught that menstruation is embarrassing or impure, it can have lasting impacts on their lives, including:
➡️ Missing out on education
➡️ Staying silent about pain or health issues
➡️ Feeling ashamed of their own bodies.
What harmful words or messaging about periods did you grow up hearing?

It’s time to end the shame and stigma around periods once and for all. ❌
We’re proud to work with incredible organizations around the world that are coming up with innovative ways to show girls and boys why periods are nothing to be ashamed of.
By talking openly about periods, the human body, and providing period products, they’re helping young people feel more confident and reach their full potential.
Help us bring an end to the stigma. Donate to support community-led interventions on our website. https://bit.ly/4uDCKKv

Today, we are proud to announce Amuno Rural Hub as the 2026 Robert D. Stillman Dignity Award winner, an award that recognizes community-based organizations advancing the dignity of children and young people through care, opportunity, and community leadership.
In rural Uganda, Amuno Rural Hub is bringing that vision to life. You heard it here first: young people aren’t waiting ‘their turn’ to have their voices heard. They’re speaking out, working together, and harnessing their skills to build a world that works for them.
We couldn’t be more proud of young leaders like Abigail who are taking action into their own hands. 👏👏👏
Abigail was a member of the Communications Committee at the 2026 Adolescent Girls Summit in Côte D'Ivoire where over 200 adolescents and young people from 25 countries came together to develop an action plan to advance gender justice.
