University of California Washington Program - UCDC The UC Washington Center is a multi-campus residential, instructional and research center for studen

The following campuses participate in the academic program of the UC Washington Center. Students from these and other campus programs spend a term in residence at the Center working and studying in the Washington DC metropolitan area. As interns with Congress, the Federal Government, research and advocacy organizations, the news media and through a host of other opportunities, students gain firsthand exposure to the American political process while attaining valuable work experience. Students enrolled during the academic year take courses at the Center to fulfill the academic component of each campus program. Many write and present comprehensive research papers based in part on their internship experiences. Participating Campuses:

Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi kicked off our Fall 2026 Monday Speaker Series, joining John Lawrence for a conversation followed by a Q&A with UCDC students.

Lawrence has taught the Congress research seminar at UCDC since 2013, following 38 years on Capitol Hill, the last eight as Nancy Pelosi chief of staff. From her California roots to her decades in the House, it was a full-circle moment for a new cohort of UC students building their own path in DC. Thank you, Speaker Emerita Pelosi, and Professor Lawrence for spending the evening with our students.

First week in DC is officially in the books!

We’re excited to welcome students from 9 UC campuses to UCDC for Fall 2026. They’ve spent the week getting settled, starting their internships, and getting to know the city.

And as we celebrate 25 years of the UC Washington Center this year, we’re can’t wait to see what this group will do next!

Happy first day of Pride Month! Spend a week with Zorrah, a Literature major at Zorrah is spending her Spring quarter as a Community Health & Engagement Intern in the DC LGBTQ Community Center, where she assists with desk operations, organizes the community closet, and provides support for community based events.

Highlights: Community Engagement, attending Pride Outreach events for the Center, and programming events such as Sunday supper and updating her resume with her supervisor.

On Monday, May 18, the UC Washington Center will host 9 Bold Policy Ideas from the University of California Faculty, a public program featuring faculty from across the system presenting research-informed policy proposals on key issues facing communities nationwide.

Topics include youth mental health, long-term care, immigration, farmworker protections, and misinformation in the time of AI.
