The countdown is on, only 20 days until the PESC-A4L April 2024 Summit! Learn from industry leaders in three key sessions on international document exchange, standards adoption, and postsecondary student data privacy:

IMPROVING INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENT EXCHANGE
Moderator: Michael Sessa, President Emeritus, PESC
- Matt Bemis, Associate Registrar, University of Southern California
- Doug Holmes, Manager - eTranscripts, Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC), and CanPESC Chair
- Bert van der Geest, Regional Director - North America, Digitary by Parchment

Learn how the PESC community is tackling global document exchange challenges through collaboration. PESC’s GEO Code database assigns unique codes to educational organizations, simplifying international document exchange and reducing fraud. Digitary by Parchment empowers learners to control their documents (PDF and PESC XML) across borders, further streamlining the process. Additionally, the Canadian PESC User Group (CanPESC) fosters knowledge sharing and ensures PESC standards remain relevant for smoother data exchange.

BRIDGING THE GAP: MAXIMIZING VALUE AND EASE IN STANDARDS ADOPTION
- Jim Goodell, Director of Innovation, Quality Information Partners, Inc. (QIP)
- Jim Ireland, Executive Director, HR Open Standards Consortium
- Alex Jackl, CEO & President, Bardic Systems

Standards provide a common ground for different systems to communicate and work together. While relying on a single vendor might seem convenient for a specific project, it can hinder future development and maintenance. Standards promote reusability, easier maintenance, and a more sustainable foundation for your organization. This session will explore the importance of standards and how to leverage them effectively. The outcomes of this session will be shared with all conference attendees.

MEETING THE NEEDS OF POSTSECONDARY STUDENT DATA PRIVACY
- Michael Tassey, Data Security Advisor, Privacy Technical Assistance Center (PTAC)
- Jennifer Thorpe, System Privacy Officer, University of Missouri System
- Francisco Valines, Director of Financial Aid, Florida International University (FIU)
- Mark Williams, Partner, Fagen Friedman & Fulfrost LLP (F3 Law)

Unifying student data privacy across education is a challenge as postsecondary practices vary by institution and often lack central regulations. This session tackles these complexities: How does data privacy differ in post-secondary education? Where are existing practices documented? What about global considerations? Join our experts as they explore these issues and discover how A4L's resources can empower secure student data exchange across educational levels and borders.

Online registration closes Friday, April 12th. After, registration can only be processed manually through a Summit representative.

We are so excited to share more of our incredible lineup of speakers for the PESC-A4L April 2024 Summit! If you haven’t done so already, register now and gain insights into the latest advancements designed to empower institutions, prepare students for the workforce, and navigate the responsible use of AI in the classroom:

SKILLS-LINKING EDUCATION AND CAREER

- Hillary Halpern, Sr. Director of Program Deployment, University of Phoenix

This informative session unpacks the skill-mapping infrastructure, a system that uses real-world employer data (SOC codes, job titles, and in-demand skills) to directly influence academic programs. Learn how this data is leveraged to integrate career-ready skills and micro-credentials into courses and student outcomes. By harnessing these employer insights, the skill-mapping infrastructure empowers institutions to build programs that truly prepare students to thrive in the workforce.

TRANSFORMING TRANSCRIPT DELIVERY WITH JSON AND JSON-LD

- Jim Kelly, Principal, Jim Kelly Technologies, LLC
- John Lovell, Technology Director, Access 4 Learning Community
- Roger Petersen, Data Warehouse Team Lead, Iowa Department of Education

The effort for seamless transcript exchange continues to move forward. While the State of Iowa utilizes a PESC-inspired JSON transcript format for A4L's SIF network, PESC is developing a next-generation JSON-LD schema for transcripts, enabling deeper connections with institutional websites. These initiatives, working in tandem and collaborating with others, aim for maximum compatibility. Now's your chance to shape the future: share your thoughts on the next steps, the benefits, and what additions would broaden its application!

MAXIMIZING IMPACT, MINIMIZING RISKS: FOSTERING RESPONSIBLE USE OF AI IN EDUCATION

- Marc Booker, PhD, Vice Provost of Strategy, University of Phoenix
- Alex Jackl, CEO & President, Bardic Systems
- Amelia Vance, Privacy Consultant, Public Interest Privacy

While AI in classrooms holds promise for learning and outcomes, student privacy concerns loom large. This session tackles both sides: explore how FERPA, the key student privacy law, applies to AI in education, then delve into the ethical considerations. Our expert panel will equip you with actionable steps to leverage AI responsibly, fostering a more equitable, effective, and privacy-conscious learning environment for everyone.

Don’t miss the opportunity to speak with these experts, along with other thought leaders, from University of Southern California, OUAC, Digitary by Parchment, CEDS, Oracle, U.S. Department of Education, Florida International University, and more!
