Whether you’re returning to Levine or joining us for the first time, we’re excited for another year of learning, creativity, and connection across our campuses.

And this fall is an especially meaningful one as we celebrate Levine’s 50th birthday! For five decades, generations of students, families, and faculty have shaped the Levine community.

It was a great opportunity to connect as a team, reflect on the year behind us, share ideas, and get excited about what’s ahead. There’s lots in store for the new academic year, and we can’t wait to share new updates, programs, and offerings with our students and families.

🎉 We’re excited to keep the celebration of Levine’s 50th Anniversary going!

Join us on Sunday, September 27, for a free afternoon of music, activities, cake, and ice cream as we celebrate 50 years of Levine! Open to music lovers of all ages, this event offers something for the whole community — including children, teens, adults, and families.

Enjoy a special performance of Peter and the Wolf and The Toy Symphony by Really Inventive Stuff, explore our Instrument Petting Zoo, and make music together during our First Music Family Jam. You can also join a Community Sing or Community Drumming session and experience the joy of making music with us.

Meet Mia Pomerantz, Chair of Levine’s Guitar Department, whose teaching philosophy embraces both the challenges and rewards of learning the guitar.

“I believe the guitar is a very difficult instrument, so it’s not a quick process. It can be frustrating, but it’s also cool. You have to figure out the puzzle. You can feel your brain working it out. When all the puzzle pieces come together, and everything we’ve worked on suddenly clicks, there’s a smile on their face.”

We’re excited to welcome violinist and violist Chase Ward to Levine’s faculty!

An experienced performer and educator, Chase has performed with orchestras including the Atlanta, St. Louis, and Detroit Symphonies and has 13 years of private studio teaching experience. He has also served on the Sphinx Organization’s Overture Faculty and coached sectionals and chamber music with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s Civic Youth Ensembles.

Chase’s teaching is centered on a nurturing, individualized approach, drawing from both Suzuki and traditional instruction. As he puts it, “Creating a safe space for students to express themselves allows trust, empathy, and understanding to flow freely between student and teacher.”

Welcome to Levine, Chase! We look forward to making music and learning together. 🎶

Meet Dr. Glenda Bates, Chair of First Music, whose teaching philosophy begins with one simple idea: music brings joy.

“The main goal and the main experience for children is joy around music-making,” says Glenda. “What makes Levine’s First Music program special is the faculty. We’re always learning from each other and from current research on how best to present these classes.”

Through Levine’s First Music program, young learners build a lifelong connection to music by singing, moving, listening, and exploring in a joyful, nurturing environment.

We recently wrapped up our Rock Band Camp, where young musicians explored the world of rock music while building confidence, creativity, and ensemble skills. 🎸

From learning their roles in a band to experimenting with improvisation, arranging, and chart reading, we worked together to bring their music to life and discover the power of making music as a team.

The camp ended with a high-energy live performance, celebrating the creativity, collaboration, and musical growth of our campers. Thank you to our students and instructors for making this experience unforgettable!

It's never too late to make music. 🎶

Whether you're picking up an instrument for the first time or returning after years away, Levine offers adult students a welcoming place to learn, grow, and connect.

"Teaching adult students and being part of their experience at Levine is really wonderful because they come here for very internal reasons. They just love music, and they really want to learn," says Melinda Baird, Director of Piano Programs.

For many adult students, Levine is an opportunity to explore new interests, become part of a supportive community, meet new people, and step away from the stress of work and daily life. It's a chance to recharge, express yourself, and experience the joy of making music.

As part of our Loeffler Alumni Series, we welcomed Grammy Award-winning oboist and Levine alumna Toyin Spellman-Diaz back to the Levine stage. Joined by Andrew Griffin and Ellen Hwangbo, Toyin presented a captivating program that celebrated contemporary voices alongside timeless repertoire, showcasing the artistry and musical excellence that continue to define the Levine community.
