On June 1st, we proudly welcomed our 2026 Fannie Lou Hamer Fellows to the Congressional Black Caucus Institute (CBCI).

Named in honor of the legendary civil rights leader and voting rights champion, the Fannie Lou Hamer Fellowship was created to empower the next generation of Black leaders by providing hands-on experience in public policy, advocacy, government relations, and public service.

Fannie Lou Hamer believed that ordinary people could do extraordinary things when given the opportunity to lead. Her courage, determination, and unwavering commitment to justice continue to inspire our work and the mission of this fellowship.

Over the next several weeks, our fellows will gain invaluable professional experience, build meaningful relationships, and deepen their understanding of the policy-making process while carrying forward Mrs. Hamer’s legacy of civic engagement and leadership.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our host organizations for their continued partnership and commitment to investing in future leaders:

• Entergy
• Cornerstone Government Affairs
• Tyson Foods
• National Alliance of Forest Owners (NAFO)
• Capitol Hill Consulting Group
• Taft Advisors

Your support helps create opportunities that will shape the next generation of advocates, policy professionals, and changemakers.

Welcome to the 2026 Fannie Lou Hamer Fellowship Cohort. We are excited to see all that you will accomplish.

Today, we proudly welcome a new class of future leaders, campaign professionals, advocates, and changemakers from across the country to the 2026 CBC Institute Political Leadership Development Program Boot Camp!

For more than two decades, CBC Institute’s Boot Camp has equipped participants with the skills, strategies, and confidence needed to succeed in the political arena—from grassroots organizing and voter engagement to fundraising, communications, and campaign leadership.

Over the next seven days, our attendees will engage in intensive training led by seasoned political experts, participate in hands-on workshops, and put their knowledge to the test through a real-world campaign simulation. They will learn what it takes to build, manage, and win campaigns while developing leadership skills that will serve them for years to come.

What began as a vision to train highly skilled individuals ready to serve in any campaign role, anywhere in America, has grown into a network of more than 1,000 alumni making an impact on campaigns and in communities nationwide.

To our 2026 Boot Camp participants: We are honored to have you here. Prepare to learn, grow, network, and lead. The future of leadership is in this room, and we can’t wait to see what you’ll accomplish.

Welcome to the CBC Institute family. Let’s get to work! 💼🇺🇸

Yesterday, the Supreme Court allowed Alabama to eliminate one of its two majority-Black congressional districts, a decision that could reshape representation for Black voters across the state.

This ruling follows a series of recent redistricting decisions across the South that have reduced opportunities for Black communities to elect candidates of their choice. Together, these actions raise important questions about representation, political power, and the future of voting rights in America.

The fight for fair representation did not end with the Voting Rights Act.

It did not end in Selma.

And it does not end today.

As new challenges emerge, civic engagement, community organizing, and leadership development remain critical tools for protecting democracy and ensuring every voice is heard.

At CBCI, we believe the next generation must be prepared not only to vote, but to lead.

The future of representation depends on it.
