Earlier this week, we hosted a Parent Nutritional & Fitness Workshop where families came together to learn about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle through nutrition, movement, and wellness habits.

A special thank you to Angel Ramirez from Dance Loft on 14 for leading an amazing fitness class and getting our parents active and energized! We also had the opportunity to give away healthy nutritional foods to some of our families.

Thank you to all of the parents who attended and participated. We truly appreciate your continued support and commitment to the health and well-being of your families and our community!

A principios de esta semana, organizamos nuestro Taller de Nutrición y Fitness para Padres, donde las familias se reunieron para aprender sobre la importancia de mantener un estilo de vida saludable a través de la nutrición, el movimiento y hábitos de bienestar.

Un agradecimiento especial a Angel Ramirez de Dance Loft on 14 por dirigir una increíble clase de fitness y motivar a nuestros padres a mantenerse activos y llenos de energía. También tuvimos la oportunidad de regalar alimentos saludables y nutritivos a algunas de nuestras familias.

Gracias a todos los padres que asistieron y participaron. ¡Apreciamos muchísimo su continuo apoyo y compromiso con la salud y el bienestar de sus familias y de nuestra comunidad!

Over the past month, our students at the SED Center participated in a hands-on planting project where they learned the importance of patience, responsibility, consistency, and daily care while growing their own plants from seed to sprout.

Throughout the project, students explored STEM-based concepts such as the plant life cycle, sunlight, water, growth patterns, and observation through real-world, interactive learning experiences. More importantly, they had the opportunity to nurture something over time and witness the results of their care and dedication firsthand.

At the conclusion of the project, our students from Class 4A proudly showcased their plants to the rest of the Pre-K classes and answered questions from their fellow classmates about the growing process and what they learned along the way. This experience encouraged confidence, communication, leadership, and peer to peer learning in a fun and engaging environment.

Projects like these help build curiosity, strengthen routines, encourage teamwork, and create meaningful connections between classroom learning and everyday life. We are so proud of the growth our students showed, both in their plants and in themselves. 🌱

Durante el último mes, nuestros estudiantes del SED Center participaron en un proyecto práctico de siembra donde aprendieron la importancia de la paciencia, la responsabilidad, la constancia y el cuidado diario mientras cultivaban sus propias plantas desde semilla hasta brote.

A lo largo del proyecto, los estudiantes exploraron conceptos relacionados con STEM, como el ciclo de vida de las plantas, la luz solar, el agua, los patrones de crecimiento y la observación, a través de experiencias de aprendizaje interactivas y del mundo real. Más importante aún, tuvieron la oportunidad de cuidar algo con el paso del tiempo y ver de primera mano los resultados de su dedicación y esfuerzo.

Al finalizar el proyecto, nuestros estudiantes de la clase 4A presentaron con orgullo sus plantas al resto de las clases de Pre-K y respondieron preguntas de sus compañeros sobre el proceso de crecimiento y lo que aprendieron durante la actividad. Esta experiencia fomentó la confianza, la comunicación, el liderazgo y el aprendizaje entre compañeros en un ambiente divertido y participativo.

Proyectos como este ayudan a desarrollar la curiosidad, fortalecer las rutinas, fomentar el trabajo en equipo y crear conexiones significativas entre el aprendizaje en el salón de clases y la vida cotidiana. Estamos muy orgullosos del crecimiento que demostraron nuestros estudiantes, tanto en sus plantas como en ellos mismos. 🌱

Yesterday, our students enjoyed a trip to the community park filled with fresh air, movement, exploration, and time together outside of the classroom. While it may seem like a simple outing, experiences like these can play an important role in STEM learning and student development.

A trip to the park encourages students to observe the world around them, ask questions, recognize patterns in nature, explore how playground structures are designed, and engage in problem-solving through real-world experiences. These moments help strengthen critical thinking, curiosity, communication, and teamwork skills in a fun and natural environment.

Most importantly, activities like these remind students that learning can happen anywhere. By connecting education with everyday experiences, we help create meaningful opportunities for growth, confidence, creativity, and community.

Ayer, nuestros estudiantes disfrutaron de una visita al parque comunitario llena de aire fresco, movimiento, exploración y tiempo compartido fuera del salón de clases. Aunque puede parecer una salida sencilla, experiencias como esta juegan un papel importante en el aprendizaje STEM y en el desarrollo de nuestros estudiantes.

Una visita al parque motiva a los estudiantes a observar el mundo que los rodea, hacer preguntas, reconocer patrones en la naturaleza, explorar cómo están diseñadas las estructuras del parque y desarrollar habilidades de resolución de problemas a través de experiencias reales. Estos momentos ayudan a fortalecer el pensamiento crítico, la curiosidad, la comunicación y el trabajo en equipo de una manera divertida y natural.

Lo más importante es que actividades como estas les recuerdan a nuestros estudiantes que el aprendizaje puede suceder en cualquier lugar. Al conectar la educación con experiencias cotidianas, creamos oportunidades significativas para el crecimiento, la confianza, la creatividad y la comunidad.

Earlier this week, we celebrated Cinco de Mayo with a day full of culture, creativity, and fun!

Our students enjoyed traditional Mexican food for lunch, listened to book readings, and took part in arts & crafts activities inspired by Mexican traditions and culture. It was a wonderful day of learning, celebrating, and exploring traditions together!

A principios de esta semana, celebramos el Cinco de Mayo con un día lleno de cultura, creatividad y diversión.

Nuestros estudiantes disfrutaron de comida tradicional mexicana durante el almuerzo, participaron en lecturas de libros y realizaron actividades de arte y manualidades inspiradas en las tradiciones y la cultura mexicana. ¡Fue un maravilloso día de aprendizaje, celebración y exploración de tradiciones juntos!

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Washington Area Fuel Fund (WAFF) to the SED Center 💙

For those who may not know, WAFF is a local nonprofit that has been supporting families across the DMV since 1983. Their mission is simple but powerful: to ensure no one has to go without heat during difficult times. They provide emergency financial assistance to households struggling to pay their energy bills—especially when families are facing challenges like job loss, illness, or unexpected expenses.

Over the years, they’ve helped hundreds of thousands of people in our region keep their homes warm and safe, allowing families to focus on what matters most.

Yesterday’s visit was especially meaningful, as they were celebrating 43 years of service. To mark the occasion, they brought breakfast, blankets, and cake to share with our students and families—a thoughtful and generous way to celebrate alongside the community they continue to support.

We’re incredibly grateful for their generosity and for the lasting impact they make across our region. Thank you for helping keep our families supported, warm, and cared for!

Ayer tuvimos el placer de recibir a Washington Area Fuel Fund (WAFF) en el SED Center 💙

Para quienes no los conocen, WAFF es una organización sin fines de lucro que ha estado apoyando a familias en toda el área del DMV desde 1983. Su misión es simple pero poderosa: asegurar que nadie tenga que pasar sin calefacción en momentos difíciles. Ofrecen asistencia financiera de emergencia a hogares que tienen dificultades para pagar sus facturas de energía, especialmente cuando enfrentan situaciones como la pérdida de empleo, enfermedades o gastos inesperados.

A lo largo de los años, han ayudado a cientos de miles de personas en nuestra región a mantener sus hogares cálidos y seguros, permitiendo que las familias se enfoquen en lo que realmente importa.

La visita de ayer fue especialmente significativa, ya que estaban celebrando 43 años de servicio. Para conmemorar la ocasión, trajeron desayuno, mantas y pastel para compartir con nuestros estudiantes y familias—una forma muy especial y generosa de celebrar junto a la comunidad a la que continúan apoyando.

Estamos profundamente agradecidos por su generosidad y por el impacto que siguen teniendo en nuestra comunidad. ¡Gracias por ayudar a mantener a nuestras familias apoyadas, abrigadas y cuidadas!

Today we celebrated Earth Day with a day full of creativity, learning, and collaboration! Our students enjoyed reading The Earth and I by Frank Asch, sparking meaningful conversations about caring for our planet.

Students proudly wore the Earth Day shirts they created last week, bringing an extra sense of excitement and unity to the celebration. Throughout the day, classes expressed their love for the Earth through arts and crafts and beautiful paintings inspired by nature.

Students also planted seeds in their classrooms, learning firsthand how we can nurture and grow life. To make the day even more special, some classes performed songs, while others shared lessons about recycling and reusing materials—teaching us all simple ways to make a big impact.

It was a joyful celebration of responsibility, creativity, and community as we continue to learn how to care for our world. 🌱

Hoy celebramos el Día de la Tierra con un día lleno de creatividad, aprendizaje y colaboración. Nuestros estudiantes disfrutaron la lectura de The Earth and I de Frank Asch, lo que inspiró conversaciones significativas sobre cómo cuidar nuestro planeta.

Los estudiantes llevaron con orgullo las camisetas del Día de la Tierra que crearon la semana pasada, lo que añadió aún más emoción y unión a la celebración. A lo largo del día, las clases expresaron su amor por la Tierra a través de manualidades, arte y hermosas pinturas inspiradas en la naturaleza.

Los estudiantes también sembraron semillas en sus salones, aprendiendo de primera mano cómo podemos cuidar y hacer crecer la vida. Para hacer el día aún más especial, algunas clases presentaron canciones, mientras que otras compartieron lecciones sobre el reciclaje y la reutilización de materiales, enseñándonos maneras simples de generar un gran impacto.

On the final day of our Week of the Young Child celebration, we came together for a Picnic at the Park, focusing on taste and camaraderie! 🌿🍎

Our students enjoyed sharing a meal outdoors, exploring different foods, and building connections with their classmates in a relaxed and joyful setting. It was a wonderful opportunity to encourage social interaction, try new tastes, and celebrate together as a community.

We loved ending the week with such a meaningful experience—filled with laughter, connection, and lasting memories!

En el último día de nuestra Semana del Niño Pequeño, nos reunimos para un picnic en el parque, enfocado en el gusto y la convivencia. 🌿🍎

Nuestros estudiantes disfrutaron de compartir alimentos al aire libre, explorar diferentes sabores y fortalecer la conexión con sus compañeros en un ambiente relajado y lleno de alegría. Fue una hermosa oportunidad para fomentar la interacción social, probar nuevos alimentos y celebrar juntos como comunidad.

Day 3 of our Week of the Young Child celebration was all about creativity and self-expression! 🎨

Our students enjoyed a fun day outdoors with Chalk Art at the Park, where they explored colors, shapes, and imagination while expressing themselves freely. From drawings on the ground to collaborative creations, it was amazing to see their creativity come to life.

Back in the classroom, students also participated in finger painting, continuing to explore textures and artistic expression in a hands-on way.

We love providing opportunities for our students to express themselves, work together, and build confidence through art and creativity!

¡El Día 3 de nuestra Semana del Niño Pequeño estuvo lleno de creatividad y libre expresión! 🎨

Nuestros estudiantes disfrutaron de un día divertido al aire libre con arte con tiza en el parque, donde exploraron colores, formas e imaginación mientras se expresaban libremente. Desde dibujos en el suelo hasta creaciones en conjunto, fue increíble ver cómo su creatividad cobraba vida.

De regreso en el aula, los estudiantes también participaron en pintura con dedos, explorando texturas y la expresión artística de manera práctica y divertida.

¡Nos encanta brindar oportunidades para que nuestros estudiantes se expresen, trabajen juntos y desarrollen confianza a través del arte y la creatividad!

Day 2 of our Week of the Young Child celebration was all about reading, music, and movement! 📚🎶

Our infant classes enjoyed special reading sessions led by Mariel Sánchez. The children gathered to listen to classic favorites like Mother Goose, Humpty Dumpty, Hickory, Dickory, Dock!, and Jack Be Nimble, bringing stories to life through rhythm and rhyme. They also enjoyed Oscar, cola de lombriz!, encouraging language development and imagination in a fun and engaging way.

We kept the energy going by dancing to spring rhythms, honoring music and movement as part of our celebration—getting our students active, expressive, and having fun together! 🌸

We love seeing our students learn through stories, rhythm, and joyful experiences each day!

¡El Día 2 de nuestra Semana del Niño Pequeño estuvo lleno de lectura, música y movimiento! 📚🎶

Nuestras clases de infantes disfrutaron de sesiones especiales de lectura dirigidas por Mariel Sánchez. Los niños se reunieron para escuchar clásicos como Mother Goose, Humpty Dumpty, Hickory, Dickory, Dock! y Jack Be Nimble, dando vida a las historias a través del ritmo y la rima. This week, we’re celebrating the Week of the Young Child, an annual initiative led by The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) that highlights the importance of early childhood education and the critical role it plays in a child’s development.

Throughout the week, we’re engaging our students in fun, meaningful activities that support learning, creativity, and connection.

Yesterday, we kicked things off with Music Monday! 🎶 Our students explored rhythm, movement, and self-expression through music—dancing, singing, and having an amazing time together. They also worked on tie-dye shirts in preparation for Earth Day 🌎, combining creativity with environmental awareness.

We’re excited to continue celebrating all week long and sharing these special moments with our community!

Esta semana estamos celebrando la Semana del Niño Pequeño (Week of the Young Child), una iniciativa anual liderada por la National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) que destaca la importancia de la educación en la primera infancia y el papel fundamental que tiene en el desarrollo de los niños.

A lo largo de la semana, nuestros estudiantes participarán en actividades divertidas y significativas que fomentan el aprendizaje, la creatividad y la conexión.

Ayer comenzamos con Music Monday (Lunes de Música) 🎶, donde nuestros estudiantes exploraron el ritmo, el movimiento y la expresión personal a través de la música—¡bailando, cantando y disfrutando juntos! Además, también trabajaron en camisetas de tie-dye en preparación para el Día de la Tierra 🌎, combinando creatividad con conciencia ambiental.
