Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to honor the resilience, culture, and contributions of Hispanic and Latinx communities. Celebration begins with recognition.
Biotechnology has been shaped by many pioneers from these communities. Dr. Lydia Villa-Komaroffâs work showed that bacterial cells could be engineered to produce insulin precursors, paving the way for diabetic treatment. Dr. Severo Ochoa discovered an enzyme that synthesizes RNA, a breakthrough that helped decode the genetic code and earned him a Nobel Prize. And countless others continue to shape the field today.
This week, we celebrated with a movie night featuring Coco, a story that moved us all to tears! A huge thank you to Dr. Divito and Ranju for the snacks and helping us organize the event!!đ§Źđ§Ź
